Broken Nozzle
« on: February 08, 2015, 05:58:06 PM »

Hey Slim thanks for the help on my 25 tonight. I let it burn down an you were 100 % right. The nozzle is broken and falling in on itself. If I were to take out the broken piece the nozzle looks like it will be huge. The sad part is my boiler has only been running for six weeks, we fired it the first time xmas eve.

Any time Larry, how badly is it broken, is it just the edge and can you get the broken portion out OK to get it running, it is pretty normal for a chip to break off the sharp edge and the stove will still perform just fine but I suggest that you give Rory or Brian a call and have them get Karl to send you one of his nozzles. How about a picture?

I will try to get a picture when I get home. The nozzle has a crack about 2 - 3 " long and is closing up the nozzle. I wanted to take
the piece out but wasn't sure if that would cause more problems with how the boiler runs.

If it is blocking air flow through the nozzle then by all means remove it.

Ok, now I need to know what the difference between the factory nozzles and Karls's nozzles is. I go through a nozzle per year so far. 3 years, 3 nozzles.

Simple really, I think Karls are better quality and he opened them up so they don't plug as easily, I'm still trying to plug mine Karl and last time I looked I see no wear.

Hey Karl,,,

Is there any way to make your nozzle a "hot swap" (i.e. quick, easy replacement) design?

What I mean is, if the nozzle is going to wear, what about making it easy to just pull the existing nozzle and replace it as needed (preferably without re-cementing it back into the firebrick in the bottom of the firebox).

I have not thought about how this would be performed but I was wondering if you or Slim or P&M thought about this as a an intended design.

Cheers!  -Sloppy

It is done Slopster, the original is mortared in but there is no need to do that, especially on the replacement
