thermostate runaway
« on: November 28, 2011, 07:25:36 AM »

I am having an issue with my one thermostate.  It is all hooked up for a heat pump, but I intercepted the "Y" going to the compressor and put it on a light switch so I could switch between its normal path and my 3-way zone valve.  This seems to work great and allows me to easily switch between heatpump operation and furnace operation.  However, my one system seem to freak out and it seems to be something to do with when it changes temperatures due to its programming.  For instance, it is set to cool down at night, 63F.  Then at 6am it is supposed to go to 70F.  Instead it just freaks out and heats forever until I manually shut it off.  The other day it was at 78F and still heating even though it was set to 70F.  This appears to be its "auto recovery mode".  If I manually set it, it works fine.  So for now I just have it on permanent hold and change the temp as I enter and leave the house.  This is annoying though.  Any ideas why it is doing this?

It is like it just forgets to shut off when it is in the schedule mode.
