Home Made / Home made boiler 2.0
« on: December 21, 2017, 07:06:34 PM »
I built the first version and found my firebox too small, I am going to reuse the water jacket(48x72) and put in a bigger firebox. The old firebox was a 30x36 propane tank, I want to ether use a 37x60 propane tank, or build a square box out of 1/4 plate approximately 36x60.  I tried the horizontal pipe out the back, and I think I will go vertical with a diverter plate on the upgrade. So the big question is use the propane tank or build out of plate.

Title kind of says it all, I can fit a 20x20 air to water if it sits right on top of the furnace.

It will be less than 2" from the furnace exchanger...

Plumbing / Routing pex from the boiler to the house
« on: September 12, 2012, 08:44:12 PM »
My shop is between the house and where the boiler will go, I was thinking I could run the pex through the shop saving me 55 feet of trenching.
The issue I see is I would have to route the lines over the doorways. Anyone think this would be an issue?

Home Made / A few questions and my build
« on: September 09, 2012, 06:58:54 AM »
I am using a 500 gal tank with a 120 gal propane tank in side it.

Does anyone have any pics of the process of putting the smaller tank inside the big one and building the door opening and the door?

Chimney, is bigger better? I am thinking 6" but I can get 8" and 10". How tall?

Do you use a grate or let the wood sit on the bottom of the burn chamber?

Forced or natural draft?

I am sure I will have more questions, thanks in advance!

Home Made / Newbie checking in

I am bound and determined to shake the propane monkey off my back, so I have been collecting and reading.

Great site, great info.

I have a 120 gal propane tank, and am getting a 500 gal underground fuel oil tank. My goal is to have it running by next winter.
All input is appreciated, Do you think the 120/500 is a good match? I will post dimensions and pictures as I get them.

Thanks in advance.

Ben
