Title: Water temperature sensor
Post by: Hippie44 on November 07, 2019, 04:38:36 PM
Do any guys know if there’s a clamp on water temperature sensor. The reason so I can keep track of the temperature from inside of the house. It would made it easier to know when to add wood. Thanks

There's bound to be one but I can't recall right off. Ranco and Honeywell both make strap on Aquastats where you could come up with a GO.NOGO setup using different setpoints but would probably be pricey.  Might could strap a thermocouple from one of those wireless BBQ grill monitors if you're able to access brass or copper where you want to take your measurements. I have strapped sensors to PEX but even using a heat transfer compound the reading is quite a bit off from actual because PEX is a good insulator which is good for us in the long run.

Hope this might help!

I've found taping a probe on the pex with foil tape and wrapping with insulation to be pretty accurate. But if the water temp is dropping you're a couple of hours too late.
