General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: central boiler

Biomass costs a lot more.  It's a big bunch of bull, it works and they pay 200 a ton for it.  Govt pays half or more and then they act like it's a big deal.  It's just hogwash
I hear what your saying...But when you live in a state that is 2nd for the most standing tree state (Maine being the 1st standing tree state).. Biomass should be the cheapest.. Cant beat a renewable source!

Just got my eletric bill for my power.. The cost for me is .08 per KWH..Thats not including any other charge or tax.. If I include the tax and all the other charges its .14 per KWH..From what I understand, where I live..New Hampshire has one of the highest  power rates in the nation, which I dont get..Since we have a nuclear plant and a lot of Bio Mass wood boiler power plants, Natural gas, crude and coal plants..I know most of it goes to the national grid line..But still lol...

Heatmor / Re: Heatmor 200

Mine burns from the front too.  The blower is in the front and the grates are open from the front to the back.  Air will follow the easiest path.  When the fuel in the front burns up, the fuel in the back will.  It's working fine.  Rake the coals around when you reload and keep going.
Same way my burns..Just my blower is in the rear.

Plumbing / Re: baseboard heat system with a wood boiler..

You can hook it up directly..Just make sure the boiler isnt down hill from your house..If its down hill youll drain the pipes in your house.... I have a friend that had that prob..Only one prob too is youll be exposing all of your pipes to the atmosphere..

Central Boiler / Re: New CB 6048
« on: December 14, 2010, 07:20:31 PM »
You are not doing anything wrong.  I heat my 5000 sq ft well insulated house with a 6048 also (3 years now) and my temp range is similar to yours.  Whole logs definitely help some but the bottom line is you are pulling a lot of heat and probably have the stove close to capacity.  Your stove won't burn any more wood than it has to.   Pine, oak, split or whole it ultimately boils down to the btu potential of the wood.  Split wood will allow your stove to recover more quickly (especially with no forced draft) but won't give you any less heat.  Make sure you stir or roll the coals once a day, that will help some.   What is your temp range set at?  I bump mine up to 180 during the winter and have found the stove cycles more efficiently.  Summer setting is at 160.   Over all I wouldn't change a thing, married to wood & free of oil with 70 degree house...priceless.
:post: Gotta say i toatally agree..well done post...House is 74 without the oil man ...OWB temp set at 180 here

So maybe the furnace itself doesnt suck...Maybe its the people that installed it sucked and had no clue on what they are doing.. My lines are buried 3 feet..Did everything myself execpt  for the actual hook up..Hired my own plummer... Sounds like yours is plumb wrong where you getting air locked all the time etc....as far as the flapper thing..Come on 2 rivits really that pain in the ass?? Pretty easy to me.. yeah if u buy flapper through them u pay just like any dealer for any brand.. u can find them on the internet..Sorry you have a bad investment...For me one on the best investments..Beats paying big oil!

WillieG.. How do you know the wieght of a certian species of wood that is dry? So your sayin for example.. 1 cord of white oak would equal 2 tons of pellets..Not sure if you can buy a straight type of pellet other than pine..Usually its mixed hardwoods it seems..

This summer my buddy built a pole shed..All sides are open with a metal roof..Furnace is in pole shed..Pretty slick...Doenst have to deal with tarps or cleaning off snow to get to wood..The wood stacked under pole shed acts as a wall where wood is stacked..Front and back of OWB is open so smoke can go out
