General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Creosote drip
« on: October 05, 2010, 07:41:31 PM »
Yeah Ive had a creosote drip..Seems like it was cause by buring green or wet wood during warmer temps..Had to replace the door gasket..

What Ive found is pine does not keep the hot coals like hardwood does in warmer weather..What I do is mix it with hardwood..Put the hardwood on the bottom and the pine on top..In the winter, You wont have a problem burning straight pine since youll be calling heat way more..Hope this helps!

Mine smokes the most is when you first fill it... Probably like any other brand of owb..Once any moisture in the wood is evaporated..Pretty much run like a wood stove, hardly know its there..I got a fan to get the fire fired up quickly..Natural draft ones are gonna smoke way more..Gonna take sometime to get that fire going..Either way they all have a bad rep.. for smoking..Looks like the new epa ones dont smoke like the older ones..

I see what your sayig..For me I couldnt do that..My stack is 20feet up..I  would think Id need the hotter temps to keep the stack from plugging up..That would be one concern for me..

What I found is that in the warmer weather I cant put straight pine in..For some reason pine doesnt keep the hot coles like hardwood does..I run mine till the middle of May..My buddy runs his all summer..He mixes the wood..

Really not sure how much you would save wood if you shut fan off..I would think the fire would burn longer to bring the temp up to where you have temp set....At times ive opened my door and theres no fire all..It would take awhile to get that fire going again and burn longer if you had natural draft..

Anyone know any good web sights to buy furnace parts for all makes? I found one so far www.altheatsupply.com  they carry parts for a few makes...Would be nice to get parts etc..instead of going through the dealer..

I would think that forced air is more efficient than natural draft..Instant fire..

Good luck!...Looking forward to the pics!

well about the 007 pump on a oil furnace.. A lot  oil furnaces have 1  007 pump that circulates water for 2 zones plus..Measure that copper piping  with elbows , tees etc.. It could easily be the same distance as my outside furnace..(depending on style of house)  If both zones are calling for heat..That pump gotta keep up with demand.. Pretty rare that u see higher pump than a 007 in a house

well i know my furnce and central boiler come stock with 007 pumps...I dont have heat exchangers..(hot air I would need a heat exchanger) My system is a sealed system..Runs the same psi as my oil furnace (10 -15 psi)..Not sure why would my 007 pump is maxed out..  i have 007 pumps on my oil furnace they pull a lot of water if i was heating with just oil..My furnace hold only 59 gallons of water..Less water way faster recovery than a furnace that hold hundreds of gallons of water..Hydronic wise..makes sence

willieG no air is let in until the fan turns on.. There is a lower baffle under the grates..The baffel stops air at a certain point..Being a furnace user.. Really not sure why you would wanna slow the fan down..

Rosewood I have 1" pex lines..007 pump works great..my indoor oil burner temp reads pretty much the same as my outdoor furnace.. my buddy has the same furnace.. He could use a 011 taco pump cause of the grade between house and furnace....send me a email if u have any other questions

Aqua-Therm user here..Never thought to try to slow the fan down or anything.. I dont know any furnace that has fan speeds..Just pump speeds..How much you burn in a season?
