EPA requirements for OWB
« on: March 11, 2015, 05:35:44 PM »

I haven't been keeping up. When are "standard" wood boilers no longer going to be allowed to buy/use/install? Is it different by state or a federal thing? Am I correct that a guy could still buy a used unit even after the EPA rules go into effect?

I dont think you can "legally" buy a used one. Im curious to see how strictly they enforce these new regs. Michigan enacted a law which says they wont enforce the epa mandate, but the epa can step in and make an example of someone if the wish. If your in the market just get one soon and avoid the headache.

December 31st is the deadline to buy/sell a non complaint furnace.  Companies have 60 days after the new regs are filed in the federal register to build non complaint furnaces, but I'm not sure when it will be filed if it hasn't been already.  Does anyone know if it has been filed yet?

Yes its federal and I don't see why you couldn't buy used from a private party probably not from a dealer though.

Here in Maine, pretty much the same rule as the Feds have now enacted has been in place for 7 years, we as citizens can and do sell used units that are not EPA certified although dealers are not supposed to be involved in my understanding anyway.
