Title: Mega homeade front end loader splitter
Post by: treeeman00 on October 17, 2014, 09:02:56 PM
So Im building a log splitter for the front end loader of my tractor.  So first off im not the best fabricator and have limited tools to work with so its no professional job but it will get the job done.  I started out with a donated log splitter with a bad engine.  I ditched everything but the beam and hydraulic tank.  I bought a 40" stroke hydraulic cylinder and a skid steer quick attach plate.  Hydraulic tank will mount in the rear as im using a 20 gpm pto pump.  The reason I wanted this to be big is because I can get lots of big wood that nobody wants to mess with.  So I can split big wood to handable lengths from the tractor seat then finish splitting to size on my standalone splitter.  I can also pinch big chunks of wood and load into a truck or trailer.  I can split a 42 1/2" piece of wood

It will work no doubt, but a front splitter attached to a skid steer is so much handier.

We have a JD401C loader and a JD400 backhoe, for certain jobs I never start either one and the skid steer is the goto tool every time.
