Title: It's staying cold!
Post by: jreimer on March 06, 2019, 12:14:16 PM
Well February is in the books and it was the coldest in 40 years for us.  Good thing the wood supply is holding up.  When it says cold for this long, the risk of flooding here on the plains goes way up.  The snow melts too quickly and can't evaporate or get absorbed quickly enough.  My house was flooded 20 years ago because of this.  Hoping it warms up soon or I'm gonna need sandbags and a raft!

Anyone running out of wood because of the looooooong winter?

Been a cold winter here too. Plus we set a record and got 40+ inches of snow in February alone. None of it has melted yet. If we get a sudden warm up and a little rain, half the state could be under water. Hopefully we get a nice slow warm up.

As far as the wood supply, I'm still sitting good. Switched to a gasifier 4 years ago so wood consumption is way down compared to years past.

Going to get more wood tomorrow . It might just brake 2 nd coldest winter in 20 years time will tell.. but ya wood stuffing at 15 cord about or 54,480 lbs of oak slabs under 20% that's some serious BTUs system working good heating 6600 sqft  .. average 473 lbs a day and we had 2 polar vortex out brakes there reason for me running out of wood they double wood consumption. The -33.5 f one in Jan 29th it took 2270 lbs of slabs in 2 days . Shocking wood vanishing.

I got two cords left and looks like warmer weather for the weekend the heat pumps will be turned on then. Hopefully it will be a nice slow warm up this spring way to much snow on the ground for a bunch of big rains.

Agreed, we have too much snow on the ground for a quick thaw and spring rains.  Nothing has melted yet and won't for a few more weeks by the looks of things.
