General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Wood usage for the season?

That heat loss in the ground is precisely why I've decided to put a plate exchanger in the back of the boiler cabinet and pressurize my underground lines with glycol with another pump in the house, so the underground only circulates on call for heat. Which, on sunny days, is never. If I can drop my circulation time from 24 hours to 12 hours, my math says that comes in at roughly 2 cord of wood saved per season. That's with Logstor

That would be genius, how would you accomplish it?

I like the whining about burning wood . Because you can make wood burning as cheap as you want . Depends on your wood hoarding skills..
It really boils down to the person you a coucher or a outside doer. It's that easy . Burning wood my whole life . Some years wood is free. Some years you pay more .  But across years of burning . I would of saved about $500-$3000 a year .  . 😎👍

I've never pay for wood. Way much to be had for free around my area.

Amazing the performance of the stove using the REHAU pipes instead of three wrap that I used to have. Burning way less wood and efficiency has greatly increased.

How do I add pictures, as attachments?

Heater/radiator hose from Napa is how I did it.  It's held up 4 years so far and doesn't seem to be degrading yet.  I'm sure there's silicone hose that can be had as well, but I think that's pretty pricey.

Could you please explain?

It sounds like you have a stub of PEX sticking up from the ground already.  If that's the case, then put a barbed fitting on it and connect rubber or silicone flexible heater hose to it and do the same on the pump flange.  The rubber hose bends easily and holds up well.

Here is mine

Excellent!

Yes I do.

I thought about it after your first reply.

Stopped at the store and purchased the hoses and supplies, this morning went to work and got everything hooked up, although, I didn't use your installation nor the hoses and supplies I purchased.

I ended up skinning/peeling the rubber coating and foam insulation off of the REHAU, that allowed me to be able to flex/manhandle the PEX, cut it to length and hook it straight to the pumps flanges.

Pumps are running, everything is hooked up and will fire this thing tomorrow after I check for leaks under the crawling space.

Great replies and thanks all for the help.

Ok, working to connect my underground REHAU PEX pipes to the stove pumps, issue is these PEX pipes are very rigid --- any inputs on how to bend/flex the PEX coming off of the ground for connection to the stove pumps?

Thanks

What size are you looking for and where are you located?

You need bigger than 1-1/4"? What are you heating, a WalMart? 1-1/4" Thermopex is the same ID as 1-1/2" Rehau and so is 40mm Logstor, so if that's enough flow you could consider those two also

Need 1 inch PEX.

Everyone seem to be short of it?

REHAU/Thermoplex/Logstor or anything with good quality.....

Where do I buy REHAU underground lines?

Please post a link or phone number.

Thanks

Edit: Themoplex/Logstor pipes will do as well. I just need the good/quality stuff.

Any dealers that I could contact?

What kind of pipe was your original? Was it just the bad splice that was the problem with it?

Yes, the original is a 3 wrap pipe shipped with the Ridgewood stove. I have 2 pumps with one line each running to individuals heat pumps. I came just short in one of the lines and hence the underground split on the pex.

I have yet to un-buried the entire line, have dug out just the spot of the split as of now so, can't say anything on the shape of the rest of the line.

I would get the platinum 3 or platinum 4 if they still have that though. It is much thicker insulation.

I have dealt with Eastlake a lot but never used their pipe.

Found this https://eastlakeenergy.com/collections/insulated-boiler-pipe/products/platinum-3

If you are careful burying the pipe in the original post and your ground is fairly dry it should work fine. I would get the platinum 3 or platinum 4 if they still have that though. It is much thicker insulation.

Could please expand?

Careful burying as far as the depth?

Thanks!

Any Central Boiler dealer should carry Thermopex if you have a dealer nearby

Closest dealers are a few hours away from me but will call them to see options.
