Plumbing / Gpm= BTU
« on: October 13, 2015, 11:34:49 AM »
Just having a hard time with calculations on flow rate of my system. I have a grundfos 26-99 pump with what I calculate as 28' of head with 1" pex and a dt of 20°. Should be around 7 gpm but that should only be 70,000 btu. Should need 200,000 for the house. I must be missing something, maybe the ft/sec is more than 4. How do you determine that? Or is the w/w plate exchanger where I'm gaining?

Plumbing / Pipe size versus flow
« on: October 08, 2015, 06:36:57 PM »
I'm doing the calculations on my system using charts off a link previously provided on this site. I have approx. 425' of 1" pex pipe and fittings on a comparable grundfos 26-99 pump through a 30 plate exchanger. Was considering going to 50 plate but now seeing that may need to go to 1 1/4 pipe also. Looking to get more heat transfer but chart says 1" pex a only gets 7 gpm flow. Will a 50 plate change the transfer if only getting 7 gpm?

Natures Comfort / NCB 175 door gasket
« on: December 08, 2014, 07:10:16 PM »
I have a '08' 175 and was going to replace door gasket with 1" rope but the old seams to be 1 1/4". Has anyone run into this? Do they make/sell 1 1/4" silicone infused rope gasket?

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / ncb 175 clunking sound
« on: December 25, 2013, 10:23:52 AM »
Merry Christmas everyone. Yesterday I noticed the stack that comes down into the burn chamber had a 2.5" hole burned through it about 1" from the bottom. Realized the bottom so called grate was slid toward the door and the gap in the back was causing the forced draft to get that area really hot. Slid the grate all the way back and now it flames a lot at the door and what sounds like really large boiling bubbles in the tank. Also had some boil over after that but still water in yhr overflow pipe. A lot of hard thumping noises that never had before. Would this just be water boiling for some reason? Aquastat set at 185 with a diff of 8.

Plumbing / placement of aquastat

Just switching pump from top to bottom port of my ncb175 and return to the top, where would be the best spot for the Honeywell aquastat? Right now it's in a port right next to the return on the top right. Should that be moved to the farthest top left port?

Plumbing / recommendation on proper pump size

I am a long time follower and first time user and would like to preface my question with a thank you out to all the people, professionals, dealers and fellow users who offer help to each of us.  Especially members like Scott7m, RSI and a few others who give us a lot of their time.  I have a NCB175 with 200' each way of 5-wrap 1" pex from boiler to 30 plate exchanger. There are a total of 8 90's, 4 shut-offs, and 2 in-line temp. gauges in the loop, with approx. 10' of drop from top of boiler to bottom of exchanger.  I bought this unit used last fall and it came with a Wilo Type Star 16FX pump mounted in top port with return going to opposite bottom corner.  Between reading all the useful info on here and trial and error got a few of the bugs worked out and learning as I go.  The pump needs air bled out of screw in back of it every couple of days and not real impressed with heat transfer, and I'm thinking pump is to small for the distance.  I would like to replace pump, relocate it to the bottom with return going to the top.
