-30 fahrenheit!
« on: February 19, 2015, 08:28:36 AM »

What kind of burn times is everyone getting with temps that cold? That's what we had last night and I checked the boiler at 12 hours and was good still so I will follow up a time when I have to fill it. I'm heating 2500 sq ft and dhw with a side arm. Radiant infloor in the basement and a 18x18 heat exchanger in the furnace for upstairs.

It's also very dependent on what you are heating and what wood you are burning.

i am getting 12 to 14 hours on a load with P&M 2840 in -30*C temps.  I would say this is 1/2 to 3/4 filling up the stove.  I am burning a mix of dry and green tamarac.

Well I could have probably went longer by letting the coals burn down a bit more but I added a little wood at 19 hours figured that was long enough and I'm satisfied with what I got out of a firebox full usually I only fill 1/2 to 3/4.

atvalaska, is that a smoker? How in the world do you maintain temp in your smoker at 30 below? I have smoked deer bologna when it was 15 deg out and it doubled the time it took to finish. How long do things take at 30 below?
