Title: Blower problems
Post by: crichardson1 on January 04, 2012, 01:06:58 AM
First post here.
I have a homemade owb that my uncle built for me in 2010. Im on my third blower. They run fine for a month or two then have the following problem. The blower does not kick on when it should per aquastat. However if I take something and spin the the wheel on the blower by hand it takes right off. The blower is a Dayton 1TDP3. I did notice it is only a 50cfm, which is smaller than most being used on this forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Getting tired of going out in the morning and my water temp being cold.
Thanks
Chris

Welcome to the site Chris, is the blower getting creosote on it?

It sounds like to me that the starter compasitor on the motor is bad.  I've had that problem before on other electric motors.  If you can spin it by hand and it runs, then usually that is the problem unless something is keeping it from turning.

Could be getting creosole on it. I do burn a lot of green wood. As for the starter compasiter, I'm on my third blower in 14 months. All the same brand and model because they had a 1 year warranty and I've just been sending them back.

I just replaced my starter capacitor on my blower. I had the old one tested and it was registering a little low. They're pretty cheap parts and easy to replace. Have you tried covering the electronics on it to keep any creosote from building up on them?
