Testing for ph and hardness are pretty easily and cheaply done by strips right? How does a person test for nitrates or conductivity? Is sending in a sample to a lab the best way if you do not have anyone local? Or is there an easier, faster way?

You have to have the equipment, I've got it and offer the service for $14.95 if you'd like to have it done.  It's the same test many labs do and they charge $30.
