LIBERTY is worth discussing at all levels, do we not have the liberty to express our opinions without being chastised for it,

I am not sure if that is a question. I would say the answer is no, if it is a question. A person has a right, or the liberty to say whatever they choose if it is deemed allowable in their society. To expect not to be chastised, or not be supported for that matter has nothing to do with liberty. Does it?

I think a definition of the word liberty would be in order at this point. It is used quite often and I wonder how many people have an understanding of the word and its philosophical roots.

Here is an interesting thought.

People who are respected and looked to for good solid advice in a certain area (let's say wood heaters) can lose credibility to 50% of those in ear shot when discussing political issues.

What is it about politics that makes someone lose their objectivity?

If any of us happened upon someone's home brewed wood fueled hot water heating system, we could look through the system with an objective view of it and realize whether it is functional and to what degree of efficiency. But, see a statement concerning a political issue and immediately the blinders come on and it's all about ragging the opinion of the opposing party.

We have the political system that for years has been coveted by most of the world and yet we take it for granted and taint its very principles by choosing to make enemies of our own fellow citizens. I say "Do not let some group of people splinter us with their propaganda machines. Refuse to be instigated against your fellow citizens"

Slim, I totally understand what you are saying. Unfortunately in the current times, people will immediately dismiss the opposing view just because it is from "the other side". I don't have enough digits on my body to keep track of the number of people who have claimed to me that they are Independent and yet have no understanding of the term 'objective research'.

In our work, Church or Lodge environment we coexist with our fellow members, Yes? And yet anything of a political nature gets viscerally piled-on rather than objectively discussed. Where did the nudge come from to cross previous ethical boundaries? Look to DC and we can see the etiquette violations of some members there in the chambers. College educated people behaving as if the lived in a low rent trailer park.

As you stated "WE CAN DO SO MUCH BETTER".

My belief, that it is a group of Rich "railroad industry types" who want control of the geography and all its inhabitants of the USA. Greed would be the driver as was in the game we played as children (monopoly). There are Christian extremists, Islamic extremists, greed extremists, and power extremists, etc.... Truly it would great to explicitly say those 10 people right there, but I cannot.

Follow the money, I guess. Who buys elections by financing election campaigns? Why are campaign ads so GD negative these days? I get pissed when I see fellow Americans bad rapping each other just for their political views. How has this become acceptable behavior?

Even if our industrialization isn't the reason for the ice caps melting away, shouldn't we determine what is going on in our house (the planet Earth)? If your basement or crawl space began smelling bad and moisture was becoming evident, wouldn't you investigate in order to fix the problem?

Someone has an agenda to take this country down from within. Who would gain from that? who would gain power over others in a societal downfall? A poor family in Appalachia? A recent immigrant family from Vietnam? A tree hugger? A plumber from Vermont? A conglomerate of corporations? Lawyers?

These questions from my post that you responded to. Believe me when I say I do not believe it is one political party or another but someone is puppet stringing our politicians. Where is the money coming from? Who would have something to gain (money, power, influence etc) by crashing our society? Someone is instigating unrest with the population of the USA.

36
If not the current administration dividing and conquering to achieve "fundamental transformation of the USA", who would be these powerful forces you speak of.

You answer my questions and then I will answer yours.

Oh your #2,    When not winning in the war of ideas change the subject, and redirect.   I knew it would get around to being George Bush's fault.

Some sure do have an agenda to take us down from within and they are in power right now.

If you read that I am blaming Bush for all the money wasted on that war, you are incorrect. The decision to go to war was discussed and voted on by both sides of the isle. We have been enlightened by investigations and individuals after the fact on how that all went down.

Tell us the gain for the liberal left after they take us down. In a societal breakdown, there probably will not be any social programs remaining. In my opinion, it is not a political issue but of powerful forces using the political system to divide the citizens of this country enabling them to achieve their goals. Divide and conquer has been around long before you and I got here.

Two points to state:

1. Don't you boys look tough gangbanging one individual. Is that the honorable thing to do?

2. Silly how a person gets upset over a dollar spent researching global warming but doesn't squeak a dirty word about all the DOLLARS spent in search of weapons of mass destruction that the intelligence community said did not exist...........................

Even if our industrialization isn't the reason for the ice caps melting away, shouldn't we determine what is going on in our house (the planet Earth)? If your basement or crawl space began smelling bad and moisture was becoming evident, wouldn't you investigate in order to fix the problem?

It is sad that people are losing their objectivity for the benefit of political party rhetoric. When I was a boy back in the 60's I volunteered to hand out flyers in support of a candidate in an upcoming presidential election. An elderly gentleman spent some time discussing various political issues with me (just a kid). This was a time of solid cold war with Russia. Anyway, a statement he made has been with me ever since. He said, "Kid, we won't need to worry about foreign powers defeating us, our defeat will come from within.

You see this very thing happening right now in DC. Who is to blame for dividing Americans? Do ya think our present congress is doing anything near just? Whoever has anything to gain from a divided America, IS NOT A LOYAL PATRIOT.

Someone has an agenda to take this country down from within. Who would gain from that? who would gain power over others in a societal downfall? A poor family in Appalachia? A recent immigrant family from Vietnam? A tree hugger? A plumber from Vermont? A conglomerate of corporations? Lawyers?

Do you want to help with that agenda or be independent minded.

WE ARE 17 TRILLION DOLLARS IN DEBT, the EPA and the Green movement along with greed and government regulations have driven our jobs to China where there is very little effort to protect our environment worldwide
Are there any patriotic American citizens within this forum?

Is it solely the Green movement and "Governments" fault that manufacturing jobs have gone overseas? No.

Are American corporations exempt from country loyalty and patriotism? Evidently... Imagine the income tax revenues if all corporations brought manufacturing back to our shores. Our economy would be thriving. With the jobs brought back we could pay down the debt and reduce the handout programs due to job availability. It would be a win all around.

So how bout ya start bashing those who help the citizens of other countries by giving them jobs while firing American citizens.

Congrats on the success. Sounds like you are on your way to getting the entire system up to speed. Next year should bring rewards for your experiences and educations of this winter.

You are a good man Slim with a good wife.

What was blocking the exhaust "heat exchanger" tubes? In a properly operating gasser, the tubes should only see fly ash which does not even adhere to the surface and can easily be brushed away. Roxann, in my case it works well to clean the tubes after about 900 pounds of 18% moisture red oak. That is 1 to 2 weeks depending on weather. The gassers take a bit more regular attention but after you get in the groove it is suprisingly simple and does not take a great deal of time.

You will hear people talk about getting ahead on your firewood, and it is for good reason. Gassers work best with low moisture content wood (In fact, any wood fueled heater works better with low moisture fuel). I received a grapple load of 8 foot red oak 3 weeks ago. At the end of tomorrow it will all be bucked and I will commence splitting on Tuesday. This firewood will see its first use in February of 2016. I will not need to take another delivery until January of 2018 which will go into service 2020. It only takes two years of extra processing to get into a regular rotation. The further ahead you get and process your fuel, the larger you can allow the splits.

All in all, the gasser takes a bit more work but uses a lot less fuel.

Hey to Roxann  and everyone else too.

This thread has really stretched out. If you choose to disregard gasification boilers just because of this thread, you are doing yourself a dis-service.

They need to operate differently than a woodstove or OWB. The fuel (wood) needs to be within certain specifications to run efficiently. And, they will be extremely efficient compared to other heaters. If a person has only seen automatic transmissions in a car but purchases a manual transmission car, there will be an interesting learning experience, Yes?

Here in Northern Michigan, we are having a rather cool winter. I just hit the 3 cord mark this week using a gasification wood boiler. Some neighbors have burned twice that in their OWB with the same demand as I. My indoor temps are warmer now than ever before.

I do not know why this person purchased this model, nor do I know why the dealer sold that unit to the customer. What transpired between them is their business. If the dealer was out of bounds, they should be spanked. If the customer is not following recommended procedures, they should be spanked.

With all that said, I feel bad that things are not going well and hope things change fast. For your information Roxann; gasifiers need wood that is 20% and lower in moisture content, splits as small as 3"-4" with a few large mixed in. It takes some time to find the sweet spot in operating a new device. An experienced wood boiler operator should be able to get to the bottom of your difficulties rather quickly if allowed to go through your unit with you for a day. I would guess the dealer should be up for this. If we were close, I would be glad to assist, 800 miles is just too far a commute.

I have two infrared temperature readers (point and shoot). In the beginning they were frustrating to use, due to my ignorance. I was unaware of what they require to be accurate. These devices are finicky about the surfaces they read accurately.

1) Shiney, smooth or light colored surfaces are a no-no

There are simple fixes that will result in very close readings. Flat black paint or a strip of black friction tape will do the job. The friction tape is more accurate by a small margin.

Try either on a section of pipe. Take a shot at your new target and then a shot three inches away on bare pipe, you will see the difference. Comparing with other reading devices (strap-on bi-metal and digital thermistors) I am now comfortable with the results of the infrared devices.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Ridge wood vs Timberwolf

Hello Zack:

I have not been up close to either of these units. There are very many Timberwolves in use near here. The RidgeWood is built not far from here and I was told that this outfit takes pride in their workmanship and uses decommissioned propane tanks for their firebox. That is a good thing as the steel is 3/8".
