HeatMaster / Re: In-Depth Review
« on: November 16, 2015, 04:44:58 PM »
just got my 10000E running last week.

Coming from having 2 different gasification boilers in town, to this bad boy in the country, is night and day.  I love it.

Just throw it in, doesn't matter how.  Shake the grates and ashes just fall into ash pan.

Easy peasy.

HeatMaster / new 10000E!
« on: May 08, 2015, 09:30:58 PM »
just picked up my new Heatmaster 10000E yesterday.   Its still on the trailer.   I am excited about it that's for sure.

I had to travel up to Minnesota to get it.  About 350 miles one way.  Its a big boy. Coming home against a 30+mph head wind I could really feel it back there

I was getting nervous because he said it had to be across the border into the US by may 15. Anyway, it should heat my new place with ease.   A 1200 sq ft ranch 24x24 wife's garage and 40x60 building for now and eventually another 30x30 man garage.

Got a bunch of small wood that was prepped for my gasser.  So first season will be small, dry wood.  Hate to say it but I'm looking forward to winter. :)

Plumbing / Re: Leaking push type fittings

can't remember the brand they were, but I tried a couple on my initial setup and they leaked pretty soon.  Took them out and replaced with clamps, no problem since.

General Discussion / Re: Powerstroke
« on: April 19, 2015, 02:35:46 PM »
do you need 3/4 ton?  if not, Dodge and now Nissan have 1/2 ton diesels.  One B in Law just took delivery on a new Dodge Ecodiesel 1500, time will tell how good it is.

Personally, I love a Ford truck. But I drive a Dodge 3500.  One good reason...Cummins.  Powerstrokes are good engines but if it needs almost any repairs, labor costs would kill me.  The cab has to come off the truck. Whereas on the Cummins, almost any repair can be done with cab on the truck.

Example: One of my guys has Ford with 6.4 Powerstroke, the tensioner pully seized and threw the serpentine belt. No big deal right? Wrong.  4.5 hours labor at Ford dealership. So, we did it ourselves. First step, take off front bumper.  Second though 8 step, take off and peel back 7 coolers between bumper and cooling fan including drain all the coolant and remove radiator. Finally you can replace the belt and tensioner in 15 minutes and commence putting all the stuff back on that you had to take off. This took most of a day in a nice garage.  Imagine if this happened with the wife and kids pulling a camper somewhere. >:(

This same job on a 7.3 powerstroke or Cummins is about a 1/2 hour job.

Fire Wood / Handling my firewood...again.
« on: April 14, 2015, 09:36:48 AM »
After cutting, hauling, splitting, and stacking 3 years worth of firewood in advance for the in town boiler, now moving to the country and want to take it all with me.

So, yesterday I threw and stacked the first load in my dump trailer.  16x7x3.5 = 3 cords.   Drove to new place and dumped it out where I get the opportunity to stack it again.

3 cords down and only 19 more to go :(

They say firewood will heat you 3 times.  This word is heating me up at least 5 times. :)

Well, the fire went out due to warm temps. Guess its time to shut it off for the summer.  Kinda sucks turning the water heater back on.

Hello Stratton.  I've only run 2 boilers myself but familiar with a bunch that friends and family have.  Various brands and sizes.

Pros and cons of my own boilers are probably covered in detail in past posts.  But here are highlites

Nature's comfort GT 220:
pros- large firebox, simple firebrick (after upgrades), minimal smoke
cons- stupid screw drive actuator motor for draft door, cheesey door latches, high exhaust temps, one supply and one return port

Optimizer 250:
pros- nice fit and finish, nice door latches, low exhaust gas temps, easy to clean, minimal smoke, 2 supply and return ports
cons- nozzle (wear item), expensive up front cost

Same here.  This site helps keep us entertained through the winter.

What's kind of interesting is that the site keeps a total time you've been logged in.  So far, I'm up to over 4 days.  Kind of have mixed feelings about that.

My summer will still be busy with boilers though.  Sold the Optimizer a couple days ago but still have to disassemble the whole system before I list my house for sale.  Then moving to new/old house and have to design and build a whole new system before next winter.  Good times :)

Earned income tax credit

just keep your head down and pull the plow. :bash:

all I know is a pile looks big and when I stack it, I'm always like "that's it?"
