General Discussion / morning ramblings
« on: September 26, 2010, 07:22:53 AM »
Morning everyone,
Well I just got up as I got to sleep in.First day I have had off in awhile.Going to head over to the woods today and get another load of logs to haul home.
I then have talked to a gentleman on a machinist board who told me how I can modify a 3 ph Miller wire welder I have to make it work on single ph.Even though it is not designed to.I am going to pull it apart this evening ,and take a bunch of pics of the inside of it.I sure would like to use it instead of my trailblazer running for hours powering my wire feeder.
Hope everyone has a good day,and we shall talk to you all later.

Fire Wood / Hauling my wood home from the woods
« on: September 24, 2010, 06:17:51 PM »
I am helping my nieghbor who is clearing 8 acres of woods for a farmer. We are hauling all the logs we can get home and then just burning the tops and saplings in the ground.Man we have a crap load of wood so far and there is so much more good stuff to bring home.
He takes it down with the excavator and another friend who burns wood is there cutting the top loose and the stump. Then they pile the logs up.When I get off work I haul my trailer up and use my skidloader that I dropped off to load the trailer.
working real good to get the wood home for us to cut and split at our liesure.
sorry for the cell phone pic.I forgot my good camera in the shop. That's my nieghbor kid helping put the Stihl away so we could head back to the house.

I still have refractory brick to purchase yet.Plus my electronics and fan and damper actuater.
I hope to have this project done by the end of Oct depending on funding for the rest of it.

Fire Wood / where or how are you getting your wood?
« on: March 19, 2009, 07:10:04 PM »
I was interested in seeing how you guys are getting your wood for each heating season. Are you going out and felling trees, buying it,(logs or cut to length)
Do you have people just giving it to you?Or do you go out and try to drum up timber were ever you can find it?
I will be helping my nieghbor who does excavating work removing tree lines.I will also be getting some here and there.I imagine I will get some trees from other friends here and there.
I thought about calling a tree cutter to see what they have or if they sell what they cut.I don't think I will need to do that yet,but i suppose they will have wood.

Plumbing / what did you use for the feeder line
« on: March 14, 2009, 09:12:18 PM »
I am wondering what kind? ,and where did you purchase? your lines running from your boiler to the house.I have seen lots of different styles of pex that seem to be available. What seems to be the average size lines that are being installed?I have found that it looks to be a lot of 1" line that is being installed.
Whats the pros and cons of buying pre insulated line in the black plastic tile.Compared to wrapping your own lines in insulation and then putting it in a tile pipe?
I heard mention of running the lines in sections of rigid pvc.Is there a pro to doing it that way.Seems like a ton of extra work plus the chance for leaks with all the glue joints.
Looking for any opinions and ideas.

Home Made / Going to start looking for material.
« on: March 14, 2009, 09:03:59 PM »
I have been trying to decide if i want to just buy plate steel and then have it rolled,or try to find pipe in the diameter i plan to use.I have been leaning on just getting the plate.I was driving by a local well drilling outfit ,and they have huge pieces of pipe laying around.Looks like there might be some cutoffs laying n the back of thier property.I hope to get some time to stop over there next week and see if any of it is for sale.I will then see how much it is going to cost me and then start saving for it :o

Home Made / placement of water return and exit in tank
« on: March 09, 2009, 03:33:08 PM »
I was over picking up a load of hay,and my hay guy has a corn boiler that heats all his buildings and house.I was checking it out and noticed that the pumps are mounted to the lines coming from the bottom of the tank.I take it you would be pushiing water away from the furnace correct? So his setup would be pulling water from the bottom of the boiler.I would think you would want to pull your hot water from the top of the firebox, and return the cooler water to the bottom of the tank. That way it would absorb heat as it circulated back to the top of the tank.
I am still designing my stove and trying to decide on how i want my water paths to be.Plus be the most efficient.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Opinions on Caddilac OWB
« on: March 07, 2009, 09:28:39 PM »
Hi everyone!
I am new to the site ,and have been looking in here for a while.I am planning on building my own OWB this summer.I have been looking at the different design features of different manufactures.I have questions on these Cadillac furnaces made by Pro-Weld Fabricating.Does anyone here have one?I really am looking for some pictures of the inside top of the fire box.I know it has a handle that comes out of the front of the furnace just above the loading door.I believe it moves a damper in a chute above the fire.I DOn't have any dealers close to me to get any pics myself.I like the way the firebox is designed, and have been considering some of its features into my furnace.

I am looking for any opinions or experiance with this brand furnace.
Thanks and look forward to any  replys
Aaron
