Sounds like it was just defective. They are pretty accurate and usually turn on/off within a degree or two of the same temp every time.

One of the problems with the temperature gauge that NC uses is that the well isn't real deep They will read a little higher if you insulate the fitting and gauge  real good where the well goes in.

i bought two honeywells last year one for boiler and one for hot water heater.one was good and one was junk hat to put stock stat back on. now have ranco works great.

I'm already seeing the honeywell on my 325g is not so accurate...by a lot.

i think mine has cost me a lot of wood and coal. didn't know any better till i researched on this forum that they are all within a few degrees. NC told me the gauge should be within 5 degrees and the the gauge reading is typically lower than the aqua stat setting. mine was/is as much as 20° higher than the stat and has been since my 1st fire. about 3 weeks in it started sticking on the low side. wouldn't turn blower on. so fire would go out from too much idle time. then in the last 2 weeks it sticks in both directions. mostly now just want to run and run

Nature's Comfort uses them on the GT series boilers. I don't know why they don't on the NCB at least as an option.
