How hot could I get my house
« on: February 15, 2012, 05:01:55 PM »

Just started using a NC 325G and so far so good.  Mild temps (mid 40's day, 34 night), but with a 250ft distance, house to owb, I am pleased with the 74+ degrees in my 6500 sq. ft. house.  I'm ready to hook up the outbuilding after 1 day!

Right now my house is a balmy 74: just for kicks.  I love not hearing my old oil furnace.  This is good stuff!

Do you have 1" pex? It depends on how much heat loss your house has and how much heat your pex can supply.

Just Imagine if you didn't have the OWB..That oil/propane man would be leaving you a nice bill

I do have 1 inch PEX and the house is well insulated, but has lots of glass on the north side.   I had a little boil over and a GFI trip, but other than that, it's performing as I hoped.

I had a clue as too what was important in installing and buying a owb thanks to the regulars on this site.

Go ahead and replace that breaker on the back, I replace those first thing, nothing but trouble from what I've seen.  I just install a regular plug in

Wow! 6500 sq ft is a lot to heat no matter how well it is insulated. I am suprised you can carry enough btu's through a single 1" pipe. What type of hx(s) do you have?

Nope, I throw them away.

You can never run 2 pumps on it and 1 pump kicks it too so I just do away with it, there junk

House is too big for sure.  I  have a 80 plate hx hooked to existing oil boiler.  Its a forced air system w/ 2 air handlers.  I never ran the existing system full out because oil was 68 cents a gallon when I built the house, but didn't stay there long.  I have 8 zones, so it is pretty efficient by sending heat where it is needed.  The house is amazingly comfortable now.

The GFI didn't trip yesterday, rather I ran out of wood.  Aquastat  set at 190 at the owb seems too high, going to try 180 today.  Do owb water temps keep rising some after fan shuts off?  Maybe that is why I got boil over?

Ok.  If the GFI trips again, I'll replace it with a proper one.  Thanks.

Yes the air/fuel inside the box has to be used up after the fan shuts off and the temp will spike ovier past your setting by 5-8 degrees

On my P&M ML30 I have it set for 175 on and 180 off but when the blower kicks on after a long idle it may drop to 170 before it starts to climb and then goes on up to about 185. So having a 5 degree differential set really gives me about a 15 degree range, that seems to work well for me.

The Honeywell aqua stat doesn't seem too accurate on my 325G.  I'm replacing with a Ranco when I can--at least with a digital display I shouldn't have to squint!

This is suprising to me. My honeywell aqua stat operates to within a degree of what the mechanical temp gauge is reading. It should be a set it and forget it rather than constant adjusting.

I think it is me just wanting to "dial it in" than a stat problem.  I want to be able to clearly see what it is set at and what the temp is reading.
