General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Smoke during burn cycle?
« on: November 18, 2013, 07:22:43 PM »
Sorry I posted this under site suggestions the first time so I will ask again. Ok I know this is a loaded question cause I know the nature of the beast but I'm just wondering before I post my views of my new earth woodsman I've been burning about a month. I know how most other brands burn and they seem to all smoke at the beginning of burn cycle but then somewhat clear up the hotter the fire gets no matter the wood used (green or dry) but even if I burn well seasoned wood she smokes like an ole locamotive under full power and it bugs me cause I know that's wasted btus buging my neighbors a half mile away. I was under the impression that having a forced draft on front of door she wood burn hot enough and faster to maybe not smoke during mid burn cycle. I've tryed cutting air back by covering intake and also tryed moving fire position inside and doesn't seem to matter. I'm almost wondering if it's not getting enough volume?

For Sale / Honeywell aquastat and relay new unused make offer for the pair
« on: November 06, 2013, 07:57:27 PM »
I have a honeywell aquastat and a honeywell relay I bought new from freeheat4you.com AKA Anderson's but I decided to wire my thermostat a different way. I guess using these two components allows you to run your boiler from one single thermostat without kicking your A/C unit on and still have your existing furnace as back up. They will not allow me to return them because they are electrical (bunch of bs cause I never es used and I bought a lot of stuff from them) i can give you model numbers if needed. Let me know thanks

Electronics / Need help with t-stat
« on: October 28, 2013, 08:24:26 PM »
Searched and still can't find the answer. I have a propane forced air furnace with a/c unit. And having trouble finding what else I need to bring life to my owb. A freind of my has same set up and said I can just piggy back a seperate t-stat next to my existing one and run jumpers between the 2. So what's all the other things I've been reading about relays, aqua stats, Etc. ?  I know nothing about hvac. Oh and also I have a 4 wire running from my furnace to exsisting t-stat and no way of pulling a new/seperate wire from stat location to furnace cause of finished basement. Thanks in advanced.

Plumbing / I over tightened brass fitting! I think?
« on: October 25, 2013, 01:49:06 PM »
Any of you over tightened 1" brass? If not maybe give you something to think about. So I'm very bummed I finally got done with all the plumbing part of install and went to throw the water on to fill and check for leaks and discovered not one but both of my bypasses had leaks at the T's. So now I'm faced with fighting my probably overtightened fittings loose and struggling with undoing my almost to short of 1" pex. I'm thinking the one T is not over tight because it only had a very small pin hole in side but the other I'm thinking was my fault because it was split at the seam. Now I'm only hoping after repair that the others hold together when I throw some heat on them. Just thought I would put this out there for anyone else with the over doing it disease.

Electronics / Can't find tstat info?
« on: October 22, 2013, 07:36:51 PM »
I know it's on here someplace but can't seem to find it so I will ask. I have a forced air propane furnace with central air A-coil. I have installed water to air heat x in plenum above A-coil and have question about t-stat. I have a finished basement and have no way of running a seperate/new t-sta wire that would allow me to control my boiler from separate t-stat so my original stat would work as back up. My question on this scenario is am I able to somehow run jumper wires from my current stat to new stat without having to use the aqua stat and relay I have already purchased? I have no clue on how to wire in aqua stat and relay I purchased from freeheat4u. The guy just said I needed it to run everything from single stat but I just figured it's just more things to go wrong and I'd prefer to keep it simple. Sorry if my post seems confusing but it's just the last piece to my install. Thanks again!

Plumbing / Upper or lower port for supply line to heat exchanger
« on: October 22, 2013, 12:06:00 PM »
I'm getting mixed opinions about my supply being plumbed in the upper or lower port on water to air heat x. Some say supply lower port to push air out of system and others say plumb to top port for better heat. Just wondered your opinion. I think I'm like the idea to push air up and out. Thanks

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Do I need a check valve
« on: October 01, 2013, 07:51:37 AM »
Wondering if I need a check valve somewhere in a system? If so why and where? I've noticed central boiler requires them. Makes no sense to me. If I spring a leak someplace behind the pump in house then it wouldn't matter if I had a check in place on return side because the water still going to be pushed into the house via the pump. Also how accurate are strap on thermometers verses the plumped in thermometers. (Less cuts the better in my world)

Plumbing / Help with plate
« on: September 27, 2013, 08:58:05 AM »
Long time reader and thanks for all the info. I'm sure I will have a few more questions as I go forward with my install. I have this plate x and noticed that it has the flow rate per side but which side is which? And also I plan on running my indoor plumbing with pex but should I build my bypass with copper or do all in pex. Thanks
