Taco Pump Making Loud Growls
« on: October 04, 2014, 08:59:45 AM »

I just fired up my CentralBoiler last night and today the pump is off and on making growling noises. I have a back up pump, should I go ahead and change it out? Thanks

I would first check to make sure there is not any air trapped in the pump; air in a radiant system can make some funny noises

Do like my Dad and run it till it dies, that you can be sure to get every last cent out of it even if you do have to change it at three in the morning.

From experience it will happen at the most inconvenient moment, I've watched him do this with radiator hoses, belts, chains,  bearings, or any other wear item.

Thanks, it does appear to have been air in the lines from sitting all summer. The sound has gone away and no problems. Enjoying my nice hot water and forgot how good it smells outside with the boiler running.

Thats the one nice thing about a radiant system, if its QUIET that means its working properly.  If you can hear it, that mean T-R-O-U-B-L-E (just like the song)
