Had my lines checked after insulated pipe install
« on: October 10, 2013, 11:44:11 PM »

Well finally had a boiler guy come and make sure I had everything hooked up correctly after I put my new lines in. Now he has the H2 model so he is familiar with these stoves and how there hooked up. I have a Wilo 3-speed pump for one loop and a taco007 (I think) for the other, Now he said my 3speed is running the downstairs and the taco is running the upstairs? The dont make sense to me. I hope he is wrong and didnt understand what he was saying lol. Wouldnt you want the 3speed upstairs for the fact it can flow more?

Shoot, it's hard telling...   Not crazy about wilo at all but if you had an 007 it would def be the one for the bottom floor

They won't push vertical very high at all

Well I fired up the stove finally. I set the bottom floor stat at 80 to see what pump came on and top floor was turned off. The wilo did come on. The problem im having now is that is doesnt seem to be bringing hot water threw the lines. I turned the second floor stat up and still no hot water threw the lines until a few minutes ago. Its warm not hot though. Wth is going on? Im stumped. Should I give it a few hrs or what  :bash:

Have you purged your pumps?  What is the temp like on the lines on either side of the pump?  If it is hot on one side and warm on the other, you could have air trapped.

Air locked, those small pumps will have a hard time getting it out

But, if u have return valves at the stove, close them 7-8 seconds, and snap em open fast, repeat this 4-5 times

Now just on the return side I am suppose to do this? Im glad I just put valves in because there were no valves on either the supply or return sides. Ill try it tomorrow. I loosened the bolts at both sides of the pumps and got allot of air out and then the lines started getting hot. Now it just doesnt seem to be getting to the baseboard. This is a PITA

I finally got heat up stairs. I have to keep the return valve only 3/4 the way open.  If we open it any further the completely loose pressure. I think the is due to the taco 007 being so small. Now the down stairs we cant get it to fully circulate. At the stove on the return part of it, sounds like there maybe an air leak. Its the part I just connected the new line. You think that is what is causing the water not to flow like it should? If I open the drain valve on downstairs side on the return I get heat to all the registers but as soon as I close it I dont get nothing but warm areas. Im really wondering if there is a slight leak on the return side???

Now maybe my pumps are weak? I got a taco009 for free brand new. I thought about putting that on the first floor and getting a grundfos 3 speed and running it on 2 for the second floor.... I hope that would be suffice

I tried clsoing them and letting them build but its not working downstairs. What are your thoughts on the pump replacement and maybe there is a leak on that side on the return line????

It would still be pumping if it was leaking so I'm not sure.....

YOU MUST get rid of all the air in the system one loop at a time and it should be done with a minimum of 20 pounds of street pressure. Close off all heat zones and purge them one at a time.

That is pretty much how I had to do it. I had to bleed the 2nd loop first. I still had air in the first loop and gave up on it for that night, I figured I would try to let the air settle to the highest point which in this case was the stove itself. I fired the pumps up the next day and the air finally purged out. I heard the bubbles in the tank from in my basement. It is working well now. Pipes are hotter than they ever were. My gram always complained about it getting cold in the house on the really cold days. Now I know why, there was so much air in the lines it wasnt circulating properly. Plus she didnt have insulated lines, which I now do. Hope it saves my wood consumption a little this year and keeps the house warmer.
