Equipment / Re: Stihl MS 250 C Question
« on: February 25, 2016, 10:50:09 AM »
If you ask Stihl, it can't be done. But it can! Do a search for "converted an MS250c to an ms250" and you should find a post on arboristsite.com with info. You will need a new starter assembly and flywheel. Looks like it's fairly easy to do.

Make sure the carb os adjusted right, I have a ms250 and after the first year it seems to get harder and harder to start, turns out the carb was way out of tune! I reset it back to stock and then dialed in so it started and ran like new, now it starts on about the 3rd pull every time.

Equipment / Re: Timberline Sharpener

Got mine in last week and used it yesterday for the first time. Seems I had a hard time getting it set up. Do you all sharpen left and right tooth as you go? Or do you sharpen all left and then come back and do the other. When I got mine set up for a tooth the next one which was opposite would not line up. Probably takes time to get used to it. The first time with something like this is always the most difficult. It cut ok after I sharpened it. Not the razor sharp everybody talks about on here. It was a brand new chain.

I had a chain that did that, it was WAY out of balance on one side, couldn't sharpen both sides at once. The only way to fix is to keep going around and sharpening until both sides are even. In my case it was an old chain that came with a saw I bought used, I ended up re0lacing the chain as it wouldn't cut straight cause it was so far out of balance.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: What is your heat loss from OWB?
« on: February 14, 2016, 06:37:14 PM »
What is the water temp as it enters the house? The 140 you mentioned was after the heat exchanger? What is the water temp going out to the baseboard heaters?

Orginal ring was slightly  too big, so I bought the exact same one in a smaller size a week later. Have the original one in a drawer in my wife's jewelry box ever since and wear the replacement 100% of the time.

Any of the threads on monitoring temps in the electronics section would probably be considered advanced!

Do you put a drop of bar oil on the carbide when you sharpen? I read where some thought that made it even better

I haven't tried that yet, but I will for sure try it the next time!! The little saw needs sharpened, so I will have to remember to try the oil on it.

I have a timberline and LOVE it!!! Will never go back to hand sharpening, once it's set right, you can get razor sharp teeth in a couple minutes every time!!

The biggest thing I've learned is make 2 passes on each side. Set the adjustment so you are barely taking anything off and they are all the same, then make another pass and really get it razor sharp!!

Careful using the cutter when it's really cold, I managed to break one when it was super cold and I had the adjustment off (was in a hurry) and it caught.

Figured it out!! It had to do with my low temp dial. I must have moved it too high and it messed something up. Not sure what happened, but some time with the multimeter and it seems to be working now.

Now to figure out how that thing works so I know how to set it correctly. Really should have made notes on what it was set at before I started the OWB install!! Anyone have any tips on setting the 3 dials for a normal oil boiler setup??

What terminals are you using? Is it your loop pump that supplies the heat exchanger? If so, plug it in and run it constant.

It's hooked to C1 and C2. This is for the house loop. It's currently plugged directly into the wall so I have heat. I have one of my zone valves manual opened so there was always water circulating.

Boiler fires like normal and it clicks like it's working. It's only putting out 2.3 volts to the pump though instead of 120!!

Electronics / help!! Triple aquastat doesn't want to turn on my pump!!
« on: January 16, 2016, 10:15:40 AM »
I woke up to a cold house today!! OWB was humming along at 180*, all 3 zones calling for heat, but no water was being pumped! :( I tracked it down to the Honeywell L8124L triple aquastat on the oil boiler not sending any power to my pump. The way my system works the oil boiler is a backup, but the inside controls and everything still run through the aquastat on my oil boiler.

Is there anything I can do to fix the issue other then buying a new aquastat?? No one local has any (or they are closed till monday to even check) It's going to be COLD tonight and other then bypassing the wiring and plugging the pump into the wall and running it none stop, I have no way of heating the house???

He is here!! I looked and it looked like you hadn't been on here in a year!

I was planning in running a SQL setup just like you were. I didn't think about polling the last few readings to show if the temps are going up or down, I really like that!!

I will need to reply later when I'm on a computer and not my phone to get more info on your SQL setup. Just trying to get some leg work done now so when it comes time to setup my own x300 all my web work is done.

What is your link for your current live tracking if you don't mind sharing? The old ddns.net link you posted on the other forum isn't online anymore?

I’ve looked at the control by web products, very reasonably priced compared to some, but none will handle a k type thermocouple.

This guy seems to have it whooped.

http://www.nofossil.org:7281/public/gaugepanel.html

I have seen that setup, seems like more "detail" then I want or need. Not sure why I would need my entire diagram as part of my monitoring page, all I'm looking for are a few diffrent temp's.

I plan on seeing if there is a way to use a thermocouple with the x300 to monitor my burn chamber. Just need to see if it's worth the effort. Thinking I can take the reading as a divided number of the actual value and then multiple it to display on my graphic gauge to show actual temp rather then divided temp.

Screenshot of what I've got so far. The gauges are pulling from a local download of the x300 XML file. Haven't started the line graph yet, but that's basically what it will look like.

I plan on running an x300 from control by web next year for monitoring by boiler. I'm trying to get some leg work done ahead of time so I'm ready to go when I pull the trigger on getting an x300. I'm currently designing/programming a more visually appealing website for the x300 data with gauges for the temptress and a line chart graph for the logs.

Is anyone running an x300 that would like to share their Web address that I could use to test my site? Once I get everything setup and running, it will be very easy to let anyone else use the same setup with their x300.

Does anyone have the contact info for the user Marty (hasn't been on this site for almost a year) who had setup a website to log and monitor his x300 with a MySQL setup? I don't want to sign up for another site just to send him an email. He had done a lot of the same work I will be done and I wanted to pick his brain.
