Title: manifold setup
Post by: 94supercam on December 27, 2012, 07:08:50 PM
Have a few questions. Right now i have hooked up my plate exchanger for dhw then it goes through the house heat exchanger then returns to furnace. I want to hook up another heat ex in the basement. should i make up a manifold setup??? Or just hook it in the loop?? also if i make manifolds should the dhw ex be hooked in with the manifold or have the water go threw the ex first then the manifold.

thanks guys

If you aren't adding much pipe it might ok to put them in series.
If you do a manifold I would split after the plate. I have my house setup on a manifold and have to restrict the water to air heat exchangers way down to get enough through the plate to work properly.

You could also put the new heat exchanger on a secondary loop. This would require another pump but wouldn't add more restriction and also if it is a small heat exchanger you could run smaller pipe if you want.

I just hooked it in series. works good. My temp drops about 50 degrees with heat on.
