Title: heatmaster door
Post by: caper on April 20, 2016, 12:27:23 PM
just curious if anyone out there has rigged up another rear door to their heatmaster , as this one sucks big time, my model is a 2008, however I bought it in 2012, my god its a bad design, its not hinged, it just kind of slides in place with loose insulation behind it.....yeah loose insulation,, drives me crazy...love the furnace tho....

Huh, haven’t personally seen the older models.

Once it’s in place, could a person mark the holes for a set of barn door hinges, remove the door, cut the slides off, then remount with hinges and add a latch to the other side?

Wow, some folks are hard to satisfy sometimes, did you not see the difference between the old unit and a new unit before you bought and would you have paid the extra for the door. The market was a bit different in 2008 and therefor the cheaper to manufacture boilers were the craze. As Mlappin says, if it is that hard to deal with then try adding some hinges,a latch and perhaps some rigid foam insulation.

Mr. Slim, that's a great idea!  I have a newer door design, but the puffy insulation does annoy me a bit.  I think I'll pull it out this summer and put in some foam board!!  Great idea!!

Hurt my feelings, I don't think so, I came on board with HeatMaster in February of 2015, I never sold a 2008 model for HeatMaster, I never designed one or built one for them either so I'm not sure how you hurt my feelings! I do know however that the market in 2008 for wood boilers was a lot different than it is today, boilers were built as inexpensively as possible to meet the demand. My questions to you would be, Did you see the boiler before you bought it?
Did you compare the 2008 model to the 2015 model?
Did you pay as much for the 2008 model as you would have paid for a current model?

My point is that making a statement that (the design sucks )is not a very nice way to ask for help.
No sir you did not offend me, in fact I think that making a statement like that simply proves that you might be one of those folks who will never be satisfied, perhaps you should have taken me up on that free site visit offer that I made while I was in Halifax?

My wife just wanted to say that she avoids buying a dozen eggs that are marked down because the date code is expiring soon, I can see only one reason to purchase a boiler that was 7 years old ( price ), I may be wrong here but if you go through life buying things solely on price, then you certainly can't expect the latest, greatest current product.

I to have the MF 5000   Made in 2011 it sounds like the same door design I really don't see the need to get into the back of the stove very often  I open mine at start up look things over mid season and at end of burn season usually 6-7 months never have had any issues  I think this is a great stove  just my  opinion

I thought i might chime in...

I have a 2015 model C375 with a rear door that matches your description. I modified the design the first week by adding 2 large hinges and a latch. I trimmed the flange top and bottom to allow easy access. I check the pumps, fan, solenoid and temp gauges every time i load the stove.  Love the unit!  I will post pics when i get a chance.

Only advantage I see to the old door design, if it was being installed indoors, wouldn’t need quite as much room if you just lifted the door off instaead of needing room of wit to swing

Slim.  I have a 2015 c250.  It also had this old lift out door design.  I don't mind it but curious after all this talk, why are they using that style on c models?  Cheaper to build??

I'm not Slim, But we run into problems in installs even outside on swing doors if we have an incline or bank, retaining wall, etc. However the new units have a swinging door that also lifts out. Pretty sweet.
