I have my LogStor pipe installed underground and am getting ready to make the connections at the furnace and inside. The fittings that were sent by the supplier of the LogStor to go from the LogStor to 1" copper seem to be big. Is it supposed to be real hard to get these fittings into the PEX ? Do I have to apply some heat to get them in ? Just seems like there is no way they will go in without doing something...maybe the wrong fittings....don't know. Don't want to heat the PEX if you are not supposed to.
Has anyone had experience with doing this ?

Show us the fittings.
-
Here is the fitting....the outside seems to be almost the same size as the outside on the logstor...

What did they send for a clamp? I’ve not seen that one yet, wonder if somebody screwed up and sent you 1 1/4” pex fittings? I know some people use em and you do have to heat the Logstor a little and beat in em. I take 1 1/4” pex x 1” MIP fittings and chuck em in the lathe and just shave a little off the pex end, just enough to get em to slide in the Logstor with a little effort then use a T-bolt clamp on it.
-
That’s the wrong fitting, tell your dealer to get you some of the real Logstor fittings, that one is probably an 1 1/4 inch barbed fitting used for water line and will not work well.
-
Looks like a straight 1" barbed adapter. I'm not certain whether or not the Urecon/Logstor is PEX-A or not, but I do know I've heated and hammered a whole lot of fittings into it. Did the supplier give you crimp rings or t-bolt clamps or what?
-
Perhaps you should as well try the Logstor fittings!
-
Perhaps you should watch your own bobber!
-
I have no idea what you mean by that statement but hammering a barbed fitting into a pex connection just seems silly to me, I mean you might just Wreckit! They do make their own fittings that work very nicely!
-
Good thing I didn't say anything about hammering a barbed fitting into pex then, huh? I prefer the 1-1/4" pex crimp fittings to the Logstor fittings, although that is none of your business- hence why I suggested minding your own. Perhaps you've never been fishing, only someone who has ever been fishing would get that reference. Anyway, back to the subject at hand

What the heck is your problem? I simply answered a question that was asked as well as made you aware that Logstor has fittings designed for their pipe, no need to hammer or hack anything, use the proper tools for the job! It seems to me that any time I say anything on here, you need to be a jerk, what is your problem?
-
I can't see on the picture but what size is that barbed fitting?
-
Thanks everyone for your input..
This fitting came from the Logstor supplier. He didn't send any clamp so I assumed to use a PEX clinch clamp. There is no way that fitting is going into the pipe by hand without heating it up, just to tight. I have included some more pics of the fitting and the pipe. It appears to be a 1" fitting...
-
It’s not the right fitting!
-
I wonder what happened there...I got them from the same place I bought the LogStor. Any ideas where I can get the proper fitting ?
I will need four of those type and 2 90 degree elbows.
How do you normally clamp them ?
-
When I get home, I’ll post a picture of the pex x male pipe they use, I have a few in stock if you need them but I suggest your dealer stock them.
-
Okay great thanks...I also checked with the supplier again and he said "I would use 1M x 1 barb insert brass with T-bolt clamps" so I assume that's what he originally sent me.
-
That looks like a fitting for poly pipe. 1" 160 psi poly pipe is almost the exact same dimensions as the logstor pex.
You have to heat the poly pipe up to get the fittings in and double clamp with screws not lined up. I never used one of them on pex but it would probably work fine if installed the same way. A pex cinch clamp will not fit. They are 1-1/8" and your pipe is 1-1/4" OD.
-
While we are on the subject, what type of pex is that inside of the logstor pipe? Type A or B?
-
I am 99% sure it is pex A. For some reason they don't seem to mention it anywhere on their website. A google search showed a result saying it is pex-a but when going to the link, it goes to the FAQ page and the text from the search result is not there.
If you happen to have a pex expander tool, that would probably work to get those fittings in the pex.
-
PEX-A is neat stuff, the memory it has to return to its original shape after being kinked or crushed is amazing. The manual expander for 1" can be found for $150, sleeves for $1 each, and the proper fittings for $5-$15 each, but...
That barbed adapter would probably work for the application and with a heat gun and non petroleum lube on the fitting it would probably slide in there like butter.

Those ideas may work BUT if you want to use the actual Logstor fittings, this is what they look like.
The outer collar is swelled but the bolt and plate to fit over the Logstor, once the pipe and collar are together the 1/2 inch bolt and plate are discarded and the 10 mm bolt nut and washer are used to tighten the collar around the pipe.

Slimjim...I haven't seen anything like that in my searches. I don't quite follow how it's installed ? I have had a look on-line and can't find anything like that, around here anyway. Strange that the guy I got the pipe from doesn't list them.. they look like they would work awesome and likely pricey too.
Maybe only available in the US ?

I’ve used the ones slim showed in his pictures, better than the old compression type, but you want to make sure your pex is lined up pretty well with the fitting. The collars have a couple of “hooks” on in that fit into a groove on the barb part of the fitting, get a little off and you can’t get both “hooks” into the groove on the barb, can be really aggravating, especially if your fighting them well below freezing and its snowing. And don’t let your “help” tighten the bolt on the collar or you’ll be digging thru your install trailer, the bed toolbox and the ashtray in your truck trying to find another metric bolt.
The barb is heavy duty though, nice thick walls, the OCD part of me wanted to run a drill bit thru it though and enlarge the hole a little.
-
Well, I have a call into the LogStor rep for Ontario. See what he says when he gets back to me. If I can't get the ones slimjim mentioned I will be on the hunt for the best alternative.
-
Good call! Whenever possible use what the manufacturer suggests!
