Title: Air Flow Issue
Post by: Dillon1630 on November 29, 2020, 09:19:12 PM
Just started up for the season and I’m not getting a good burn in the bottom chamber. It only gets going when the door is open. Damper is working fine, fan is good, but it doesn’t seem to have the same suction when opening the door.  Must have blockage somewhere I’m guessing, but I haven’t found anything. Any ideas??

If it doesn't seem to have normal door suction then I would start by making sure the chimney is completely clear.

Agree with RSI, also make sure there's no ash packed over the nozzle, or ash piled up behind the lower horseshoe brick under the tubes.
Follow the airflow from damper inlet disc to chimney through the whole unit and you'll find it.

Thanks guys...I'll try to check everything when I get home tonight.  It would have to be in the tubes....I know everything else is clear.  The tube cleaning handle moves freely, but it may have some build up that is blocking the tubes.  That's all that it could be.

Did you look down the chimney and make sure there is no buildup, especially just above the fan where it goes to 6"?
If you have a chimney cap without mesh in it, it is pretty common to have birds in there plugging it up.

Yup, that's an easy one to miss. I've had guys go over the whole stove with no improvement, but miss the chunk of ash on top of the fan that was the whole problem.
