RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / new stoves!
« on: September 20, 2015, 06:47:04 AM »
Just for fun I went on the website and I noticed new stoves! It looks like they have a different mid sized stove and they also have duel fuel stoves and even a top loader! It looks like Ridgewood is doing well, I'm still happy with my 6000 but the coal option on the new stoves do make me jealous.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / needs more draft?
« on: January 07, 2015, 07:21:09 PM »
Hey guys I have been getting low temps lately, it seems like the Firefox is just smoldering, when I open the door it starts to flame right away. I added 4 feet is 8 inch black pipe, I have read a few things about adding chimney but for 20 bucks it worth a shot. Is it possible that it's starving for more air?  Thanks guys!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / 8 feet of fin tube
« on: January 07, 2015, 07:06:19 PM »
Hey guys just wondering if anyone uses fin tub radiators for anything other than base boards. I picked up 4 8 foot pieces but they don't have covers or anything. I didn't wanna buy the housings or covers, I was thinking about under my floors in my basement ceiling. Anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / I'm on my 3rd solenoid
« on: January 03, 2015, 07:42:20 AM »
Hey guys just wondering why I keep going through solenoids? After 2 months or so of my new stove I'm on my 3rd solenoid,  the only thing I can think of is maybe creosote is making the damper door stuck closed maybe? It seemed a little stuck but it could have done this because the Temps got so low it sealed it self shut. When I did pull it up manually it didn't seem to take much effort so I doubt that was the issue.   Anyone else have bad luck with the solenoids?  Boy am I glad I bought 2 extras now I'm down to 1 spare one the shelf.

Plumbing / replacing 90s to 45s
« on: October 24, 2014, 04:24:38 PM »
So I have some 1 inch copper in part of my loop, in that loop I have 7 90s  so I know long 90s are preferred  but what about the idea of a street 45 and a 45  to make a 90.  Has anyone done this and would it make a difference  to be worth doing? Thanks guys  for any input

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / damper door fix?
« on: October 14, 2014, 08:00:58 PM »
Ok many of you know I had a few boil overs, I talked to Craig from Ridgewood we both agree that the damper door needed a touch more weight.  This is what I did I hope it's enough.  It's a one hole emt strap 3/4 inch.  Please let me know what you guys think.  Thanks. Ted

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / boil over number 2
« on: October 12, 2014, 01:51:00 PM »
So I just got home and my stove damper is open.  Well I am getting kinda upset about this I looked real hard at this and it seem like the solenoid was not energized but still sucked up, I sprayed the crap out of it with pb blaster it didn't seem to be sticking or binding.  I hope I didn't burn off and of the sprayed insulation I think I'm going to call Ridgewood and just give them a heads up I don't want a warranty issue one day because of this.  Now I need more solution 101 to add. I still need to send in my water sample and what not.

Plumbing / adding to my loop
« on: October 11, 2014, 08:52:27 PM »
So I got drunk with my neighbor and we bartered some electrical work for his water to air exchanger.   What would be the best way to zone this I could just add it to my return line and put the fan in the unit on a t stat.  Or should I zone it?  I am running 35 feet of 1" pex to the house, about 100 feet total in the house  I am running 1" everything about 80 feet of 1" pex and 20 feet of copper.  I have a few 90s  a 18 x 18 exchanger and a 20 plate. With 1" ports.  Can I just run another exchanger in my loop or do I need to zone this,  if needed I will run a second pump let me know what you think.  Thanks guys!

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / water temp up to 214!
« on: October 08, 2014, 08:41:00 PM »
So I came home and checked on "the hog" (Ridgewood 6000) to see how it's doing and we'll steam was flying out big time.  The damper door never closed I just touched the door and it closed I hope this doesn't happen again.  I played with it a little bit and nothing seemed to be sticking but it did just happen. I was wondering if anyone else had this similar issue.  Thanks guys.  Also I'm up and running thank god but I may want a bigger pump when it is pumping on low I somehow get air in my return line I think. Thanks again

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Air in the system.
« on: October 05, 2014, 11:17:42 PM »
So for a better part of the night I have been trying to get air out of my system. I was able to get alot out.  Now my heated changer on the top is cool to the touch. I'm hoping that in the morning the air will be pushed out.  If not after work I guess I will be adding a second bleader one already on the highest point of the supply.   My girlfriend has lost hope in me.  Haha

Plumbing / brand new install
« on: September 15, 2014, 09:27:10 PM »
Hey guys I have been reading on this site again the spam was crazy awhile back.  So my house is about 1800 square feet  1 and a half story old 1852 farm house.  I think I'm going to set my boiler about 25 feet away from house.  I bought some 5 wrap from the Ridgewood dealer.  So 1 inch pex from the boiler to the house, I will transfer to pex once in the house and I have about a 50 foot run to my furnace. My plenum will need a 18 x 18 exchanger I would also like to get a 20 plate maybe.  Do I need oxygen barrier pex?  I plan to use 1 inch pex in the house for as much as can I guess.  Another question on the back of the odb  does any one run any shut off valves?  Ball valves  or gate valves?  Any unions before you connect your lines?  I will keep reading older posts as well thanks.
