I have 6 foot extension with rain cap and it's straw color stainless so stainless turns straw color at 660f  I have a 400 Heatmor how low could I go before chimney gives me issues.
Im 19 feet up with my stack..No rain cap..Only issue I have is a build up creosote at the very tip....I sweep the stack once in the middle of the burning season and again when I shut is down for the season

Today fired up my wood boiler for the 2018/19 heating season..Pretty nice not hearing the oil boiler firing up.. Highs only in the 50's and lows in the 30's and 20's coming up in NH..Ive been reading that households should expect higher heating oil costs this yr compared to last yr, yuck! Burn wood!

Equipment / Re: How often do you sharpen your chain?
« on: October 07, 2018, 07:13:45 PM »
On really clean wood I give the chain 2 tanks provided its cutting really good..Other than that, pretty much a tank and then give the chain a quick file..Very dirty wood maybe a half tank or less..Also filing your rakers down helps too..Theres nothing better than a sharp chain

Aqua-Therm / Aqua-Therm Bites the dust
« on: October 01, 2018, 07:18:06 PM »
So i was reading on bbb.org that Aqua-Therm had to close its doors..Someone made a complaint on there and Aqua-Therm responded that is closed due to EPA regulations, R&D testing costs, low fuel prices, and the new 2020 industry regulations.. :-\

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Sizing logs to split
« on: July 12, 2018, 08:03:14 PM »
Theres no rule on what size to split..Its basically on what you want to handle or perhaps someone else to handle (i.e. sick or out of town). I don't like all rounds due to that fact of possible "bridging", which has happen to me a few times..So being said whatever way your doing it..Nothing wrong. No Rules!

Matty, Did you buy a new boiler?  I remember last year your aqua therm sprung a leak.
I did not buy a new boiler..I had a friend of mine who is a certified welder repair my boiler..I had 3 pin hole leaks at the door ring  where its welded..He did fantastic welding job..I ran my boiler for a  month and a half before shut down after repair job..No issues at all..

Slim is on FB..Doesn't post much..Will have to say, He's still selling the boiler's (Polar)..I see them displayed where he lives
