Plate HX sizing
« on: December 19, 2014, 07:56:23 PM »

Thanks in advance...

I'm looking to add a DHW HX to my system. I don't really want a restriction in the loop. My current setup is this: Ridgewood 2000 (40' from house), 1" Thermopex underground, Taco 007 circ pump, 1" pex main loop. The tubing enters the basement wall and directly enters the pump, from there, it's a 40' run to my water to air HX, and then back to the stove. I will be adding an under floor radiant loop to the system eventually. I was thinking a 40 plate water to water HX would suffice and not restrict flow. I will more than likely upgrade the main pump to a Taco 009 series and repurpose the existing 007 for the floor loop. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Wisdom?

If you are changing the pump then a 20 plate will work. Otherwise you will probably need to get a 30 plate.

A 0015 (or 00R if you find an old one) is a better pump choice for what you have than an 009.
