Looking for some advice on heating a 2.5 car garage.  Has anyone installed one of these units from outdoorfurnacesupply?

They have a 3 year warranty, compared to the Dragon Breath heater, 1 year.  Dragon Breath is over twice as much.
Also found the Modine H2ot Dawg...for almost a grand...ouch.  Would consider fabricating my own unit, but with the price of the outdoorfurnacesupply unit I would save myself the hassle.  Any thoughts/suggestions?

Will 50,000 BTU heat your 2.5 car garage adequately?

I think so.  Most research I've found recommends 45k for 2.5 car garage.  If I can get the garage to 50-55 degrees for working on vehicles I would be happy with that.

I don't have that particular unit heater, but I bought the bulk of my supplies for my original install from outdoorfurnacesupply.  I have had no problems with anything I bought from them and he was very helpful answering questions and making suggestions before and during my build.  If my history is any indicator, I think you will be satisfied.

I bought a 100,000 but unit from badgerinsulatedpipe.com for $291 and it works great on my 30x40 garage with 11' ceilings.  I had free shipping as I also got other supplies to hit $500.  The heater you are looking at is probably the same brand as mine just smaller.  So if it is rated as the size you need then it should work fine.  I have mine hard wired to a thermostat, but I know they sell a plug in thermostat that they said most customers use with it.  I keep my garage right around 60.

Look on craigslist for furnaces. I found a Lennox Pulse made in 1995. The heat exchanger was cracked but the fan was good. I made a "hood" to put on the air outlet and plumbed in a water to air heat exchanger, hooked up a thermostat and I'm heating a 3 1/2 car garage with it. I have $186 and my time in it. Had a "Hawaiian" party in it last weekend. Outside was -3, inside was 91.

I have this exact heater in my garage (36 x 26 with 12.6" ceiling) and it does the job. However - it is extremely loud with the fan set up it uses. You might be able to quiet it down by building something around it. I also have big ole cast iron rads that i primarily use for heat- I turn the unit on you are looking at when temps drop below -10.

I build my own heaters , its pretty simple and they work well , I use them to heat 2 large greenhouses so they would do a garage or shop easily    I buy one 22x22 heat exchanger---176.00 ,   1 Lasko 2265QM 20-Inch Max Performance fan  =75.00   1 thermost --37.00 , build a wood frame 12-14 wide and mount the heat exchanger in it ,mount the fan on backside and  plug the fan into the thermostat and locate the thermostat on other side of room ,

Ive been running these 2 years now, no issues , you can adjust the size of your eat exchanger accordingly but that one there will do it no problem

heatthefarm-Do you think this unit is enough to heat the garage on it's own?  My garage is 650 sq ft, 9' ceiling?  Any benefit in getting a unit with a multispeed fan?

LIke netwerx, I built my own.  Hx size 18 x 18.      A also put an air filter on it since my 24 x 30 garage doubles as a metal/wood work shop.
