Central Boiler / strap on
« on: December 11, 2013, 03:15:23 PM »
Ez now. I had a guy over and had him check out my system. He said that he would put on a strap on themostat on the discharge pipe on the boiler that would shut off  power to the damper if the temp drops below 160 degs. anyone done this?
I work long shifts and on cold nights the damper is open and theres no fire or wood. The damper would be closed and stop cold air from going through the boiler.
sounds like a great idea to me.

Central Boiler / Burning junk.
« on: October 15, 2013, 03:25:45 AM »
In my 5036 I have been loading it with brush and junk wood and some junk mail as well. I don't use it during the summer except to get rid of this stuff. Question is does it do damage to the stove burning for a short time and then cooling down again. Temp may get to 170 or so.
I've done this probably 3 times through the summer.

Central Boiler / Blower on a 5036
« on: October 14, 2012, 04:53:01 AM »
I got a used blower for my 5036. I used a hole saw and drilled 5, 1" holes across the bottom to allow the boiler to run without the blower. Then I installed a switch  so the fan only runs when I want it to run. Works great for getting stuborn fires going.

Central Boiler / Wood shed
« on: January 05, 2012, 05:27:38 PM »
This spring I'm planning on building a wood shed. I would like to have the boiler inside and insulate around the part the boiler would be in. To one side of the boiler I want to build a chicken coop. My thought is that there must be heat loss with the boiler outside. If I can contain some of that heat I think the boiler would be way more eficant. May have to make a cold air intake for the furnace but I think it can work. Anyone done this? Any thoughts?

Central Boiler / Set point at 195
« on: January 04, 2012, 08:50:48 AM »
I have my set point at 195 cuz I have some pine that I mix in to supplement my hard wood supply. Anyone know of any problems with running this hot? I have noticed that it does look cleaner inside.

Central Boiler / What's going on at CB?
« on: January 02, 2012, 07:13:40 AM »
I call CB several time with questions about the restrictor and lift messages. I never got called back. Seems like they have changed. They always used to call, maybe that was before the sale.

Central Boiler / How clean should the firebox be?
« on: December 21, 2011, 03:59:35 AM »
I have noticed that I have quite a bit of build up on the inside of my 5036. How much is normal and how do I get rid of it? I scrape it but there has to be a better way.

Central Boiler / Been so warm
« on: November 22, 2011, 12:13:49 PM »
It's been so warm that this morning when the temp was in the mid teens the floor in my basement has not been up to temp. Sure did take woody awhile to get her done.
Also with he cool temp it was the perfect time to snoop around with the temp gun the find cool spots. I figure that every air leak I find it's like one piece of wood per month I'm saving.

Central Boiler / Ash is good
« on: December 20, 2010, 08:10:07 PM »
We been having a cold spell up here in Maine, the temp. hasnt been above 30 in 2 weeks and I was thinking that I should clean out the ash to get more wood in the fire box.I hadnt cleaned is out yet and have been burning sence sept. The stove has been working great this year,I thought cuz the house was tighter.I cleaned out the ash and it was like last year.burns not lasting as long and using a ton of wood. That ash has more heat in it than i thought.Anyways this wood stove thing just gets better all the time.
