Pools & Hot Tubs / Re: Salt water
« on: June 03, 2015, 02:18:19 PM »
Just to be clear. There are Salt water pools and there are pools with "salt systems". The two are very different and most people confuse them.

A salt water pool is just that... a pool that uses salt water. One adds salt, amongst other chemicals to its filtration in order to stabilize the water. Note, salt water pools are not chemical free and DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES. Typically these are much more complicated systems and most people are referring to "salt systems" when they talk about salt water pools, "Salt systems" are not really salt water pools.

A "Salt System" is a pool that uses salt in a system that converts it to chlorine. It is a chlorine generator. You don't use traditional chlorine tabs in your pool but rather use salt to make it. It is also not chemical free and requires maintenance. You still need to use chems to balance PH, Acidity level, Algae, etc. This system is generally "softer" on the skin than regular chlorine but make no mistake about it, your pool is making chlorine using salt.

Pools & Hot Tubs / Pool Setups
« on: April 20, 2015, 01:12:18 PM »
Just bought the following heat exchanger to heat my pool with my Woodmaster 4400. Going to be setting up in the next week or so. Just was wondering if anyone else out there wanted to share info about their setups or had any tips to share.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Temps Rising....Settings
« on: March 09, 2015, 12:40:19 PM »
Hi all. With rising temps around the corner was looking to get some opinions on temp settings. We are creeping in some days into the 40s now here in CT. Being my first year with an OWB. I've been at 175-165 (10 degree diff) all season. Any suggestions as it gets warmer?

Fire Wood / Firewood Hands Hurt Like Hell
« on: March 02, 2015, 11:01:38 AM »
Do you hands hurt constantly from grabbing and moving wood holding up and down the long way. Meaning you grab the wood on the log end with your hand on top and the log dangling down to carry it? My hands are always in pain doing wood. Anyone experience same?

Woodmaster 5500 for your sq footage and application in Virginia. I run a Woodmaster 4400 in CT and I'm very happy with it. One suggestion don't skimp on the lines, make sure you install with quality insulated lines. If you can't, I would wait until you can before installing it.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: Help! Bridging I think....
« on: February 25, 2015, 07:18:03 AM »
Thanks everyone for the thoughts! I definitely need some work on the ashes particularly in the back of the boiler. I always remove from the front and then rake everything forward but reaaly don't remove ash from the back. I'm sure its a mess back there.

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Help! Bridging I think....
« on: February 24, 2015, 07:54:25 AM »
Hey all-
Its my first season with an OWB so I'm a newbie. I am using a Woodmaster 4400. I haven't had this issue until the last few days and I'm not sure what is causing it. I think you folks call it bridging but I'm not sure. I have loaded the OWB a number of times and the fire seems to be burning well but the temp doesn't come up. In fact, it seems to be dropping. The fan keeps running and burns out the front/middle wood but the temp doesn't come up. When I notice it hasn't cycled after awhile I'll go back out and stoke everything and I can get it back up usually but its taking a lot more work than it has. Any thoughts or tips?

Fire Wood / F'ng Snow is Killing Me for Cutting
« on: February 15, 2015, 04:07:32 PM »
Live here in Connecticut on the shore in New Haven County. It's been snowing one storm after another for a number of weeks. I have between 3-4 feet on the ground. Needless to say, can't get my truck into the woods and cutting has been ground pretty much to a halt. I've had to buy some bundles of slab wood to supplement. Way low on wood and now I'm burning almost 100% green wood with the exception of standing dead stuff that is in close proximity to the road and I can pull out to the truck. What a mess. Snow, please go away! At this rate, it will be April before we see any melt.

I've got a Woodmaster 4400. Love it!

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Metal in the Wood
« on: February 05, 2015, 12:37:57 PM »
Hi all, accidently threw some scrap wood in the boiler that had some metal (I think steel) fasteners on it. not a lot maybe like 6 or 7 similar to 1" bolts. Anything I need to be worried about? Will they be ok in there until summertime when I shut it down?

She hates smelling like fire, complains her eyes are burning, tells me how her shoulder hurts from putting wood in the boiler. All this after only one weekend of tending it to it when I went away this past weekend as she has stayed away completely up until that point.

She loves the heat and hot water......but that is all.

Very happy with my Woodmaster 4400. If I had to do it again and couldn't go with another Woodmaster I would go with a Heatmaster MF5000 as I like the fact that it is stainless steel.
