Flushed FPHX
« on: May 05, 2015, 05:54:40 AM »

Hi all, A couple of weeks ago when I shut down my OWB, I back flushed my FPHX that separates the pressurized system in the house from the non-pressurized system outside while the FPHX was still hot.  The non-pressurized side was nice and clean (I used Central Boiler's corrosion inhibitor in the OWB)with the vinegar flushed through it.  But, when I ran the vinegar through the pressurized side; man, I couldn't believe the junk that came out of that thing!  After I ran the vinegar through it I ran clean water to flush out the any residual vinegar left behind.  I then ran the vinegar a second time through the pressurized side and this time it was clean.  I ran the pump for about 10 minutes with the vinegar and water flush.  Now the question is; is it normal that the pressurized side of the FPHX be "dirtier" than the non-pressurized side?  Thanks, Roger

Depends on how old the system is Roger, remember it probably has never been flushed, lower water volume in that side and a lot more piping.

;D Now you may see why Sediment or Wye filters are HIGHLY recommended on the inlets to FPHE.

...which reminds me, I need to clean out my wye filters
