I dont know how to change the difference but I turn my temp down and save a lot of wood.  Typically I turn my high limit down to 150 or even 140, saves A LOT of wood

I live in the northern 3rd of Indiana heating a 100 year old country home that has no wind break.  It is a 4200 square foot house with 2 stories, it has r38 in the attic and r19 in the walls, double pane windows throughout.  I have air/air heat exchangers in both my upstairs and downstairs furnace and heat my water.  We have 4 kids so 6 of us and we keep it 70 during waking times and 62 during sleeping/work times

I used 12-15 cords/year with a woodmaster 4400

WoodMaster / Re: unhooked spring

Never had an issue with the spring falling off but I have had an issue with creosote building up on the inside of the fan.  That makes them whine, kind of whistle actually.  The best thing that I found to do was use a high pressure, high volume air compessor with a blow off gun on the end and shoot it at the fan blades.  Run that dude up to like a million rpm then change direction.  Do it a few times and the stuff will fall out of the bottom of the electric motor housing.

Then when I put it back together, I put a furnace filter on top of the hog panel at thats at the bottom of the cover to "weed" out the creosote from getting into the electric motor.  So far so good

I have a woodmaster 4400 and I adjust my temps to the weather.  It helps me save a lot of wood.  My big problem is high winds, low temps not so much.  So if it is in the 30-40 deg range outside and no wind, I run water temp at 130low - 140high, if it is in the same temp range but really windy, I run in the 150low - 160high range.  If below 0-30 but no wind I run in the 150low - 160high range and when temps are 0-30 with wind I pull out all the stops and run in the 170low - 180 high range

I would think that straw would be a better choice than hay, of course it would burn faster but shouldnt smell

I was right there with ya, I took one the other day myself.  My pressure line blew and doused the boys and I.  Then I fixed it and the 3" pipe that connects to the control valve blew at the threads and gave us a second hot oil treatment

Due to global warming, I may need to fire up the old woodmaster here in a week or 2.  Good luck to all of you guys, and I apologize, but since I got my boiler 4 years ago, and I heat for free, I always pray everynight for nut freezing cold ;)

Most likely costs so much because of the 1000's of kids washing the swine flu off their hands each day.  Wouldnt run nearly as much in a home application
