Portage & Main / pump runs but not moving water
« on: October 31, 2019, 03:18:54 AM »
I have a 28-40, turned pump on a couple of days ago, pump got hot, put a new pump on still not moving water. I have my DHW bypassed and just running heat exchanger. I sent a water sample in, Portage & Main said drain 30% of water and fill with distilled water, I did that. Can't figure why no water moving pressure gage not moving at all. Not sure if there is air in the lines some where or what else it could be. Any ideas?

Portage & Main / Taco pumps
« on: November 02, 2017, 10:41:07 AM »
I have put 4 Taco 10 pumps on my 2840 in the last 3 years. The first two I bought had 2 year warranties the second 2 were not warrantied because they replaced the first. All purchased from Supply House. Anyone had any similar issues? Not sure whats going wrong, pump is in the basement. Any suggestions, or any suggestions on a different pump.

Plumbing / Air in water lines
« on: January 16, 2015, 07:19:42 AM »
Hi guys, just fired up a new BL2840 on 12/31/14, going trough 75' of logster into the basement then going into 1' copper. Problem is I have 190 on the auquastat and not over 160 on 2 guages in the basement. Getting a air noise in the pipes and pump, Taco 0010, I have an automatic air eleminator installed and have turned ball valves on and off since fired up, still think I have air in the lines. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get air out of the lines? I have also been told it just takes time, maybe it will come out of the fill spout on the boiler. Thanks for the input.

Portage & Main / BL 2840 finally up and running
« on: January 05, 2015, 01:53:22 PM »
Afternoon all, the BL is finally burning! Have a few issues if anyone could give me some feed back would be great.
Auquastat set at 190 with 10 degree dif, temp guage reads about 150 coming in to the house, doesn't seem hot enough.
Boiler is 75 ft. from house going thru Logster 30" deep. All plumbing is copper. Taco 0010 pump.
I am using a 30 plate at the hot water heater, water is hot but not like I thought it would be.
Getting creasote build up, boiler was lit 1/31.
Getting water out the ash door and dripping from the bottom of the chimney stack.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Portage & Main / Social security number
« on: August 18, 2014, 09:16:09 AM »
Rory from Portage and Main just called and said my 2840 was getting ready to load on the truck.
He also ask for my social security #, a little worried about that, he said he needed it for customs.
Anyone else go through this coming across the border?
Thanks

How much water will a BL2840 use throughout the winter?
Is it worth hooking a water fill line to it or not?
Thanks

Portage & Main / another newbie
« on: July 15, 2014, 06:04:04 PM »
Hello All, Another newbie here looking at a 28-40 with a lot of questions.
Any dealers close to area 62014, about 50 miles north of St.Louis on the Illinois side.
Which is cheaper to purchase from the factory or a dealer?
How does it get off loaded from the truck? Is there a boom on the truck?
I have a 2000 sq. ft. up and 2000 sq. ft. down and MAYBE a 2500 sq. ft. building that is 400 ft. away from the house. Is a 28-40 big enough or do I need to go bigger, still the building is a huge maybe.
Thanks for all the help, I know I will have a boat load of other questions
