Title: Bugs Bad Now
Post by: kommandokenny on May 25, 2017, 07:54:36 AM
Bugs, specially blackflies, are bad right now.
I'm in the bush cutting a bit and notice with the chainsaw blaring the bugs don't bother me as much.
I attribute it to the vibration and noise.
Buddy says it's the exhaust from the saw.
You guys notice this???
Is it ultrasonic noise, or exhaust from saw???

Mix the oil a bit stronger and they will leave you alone.

As mentioned it's probably a bit of both, but the best thing I have tried is a bug jacket. It will keep the blackflies and mosquitoes at bay even when the saw is not running. The jacket is also great later in the season when the deer flies come out. It's light enough that it doesn't interfere with working as well.

Nothing like a bunch of smoke coming from the saw this time of year.
I mix it rich also.

It's the exhaust 100%.  They will bother me on the rider but the second I get the trimmer out or the 2 cycle lawn boy (smokes a lot) they don't bother

Now that you mention it, last year after we got thirteen inches of rain the mosquitos were insane. I have a diesel ZTR and long as I was moving they didn’t bother me, stop for any reason and you were covered, use the Kombi or the string trimmer and they backed off a little, both use chainsaw gas.

Just like the guys I work with, whenever they are smoking a cigarette the bugs don't seems to bother them.

We persevered,,,, with 12 little pickies a big crappy and a 7 pound picky
I'm full now..........

ticks are brutal here this year. I have had several deer tick bites already and I'm careful to spray my clothes and check when I'm done. This will be the first year that I'm going to spray the field and all the walls and try to at least get control around the house.

We don't have too many ticks here. ...yet
Seen two in 6 years, one on Dozzer,, one on Lurch.
As the world warms the incidence of lyme disease spreads north.
Vet says it's bad in southern ontario northern new york

Deer tick [black legged tick] is the one that can carry Lyme disease.
Bill,,How do you know what kind of tick it was??

The size is a dead giveaway for sure.

Have you guys heard the powasan virus is getting bad in deer tick.  One bite and brain/nervous system damage can occur with no cure to be had.
