How does everyone keep their firewood near the boiler, stacked in a shed a short distance from the boiler, in a lean beside the boiler, under a tarp or how.
I've been thinking about some sort of a skid steer movable shed with a roof on it, flip the roof and dump in the firewood and then shut it, so it keeps the rain and snow off of it, and hook it up when empty to dump it out or move it. Any ideas as how to build it or does someone have a better idea?
I've thought about a firewood shed next to the boiler, just open a walk door and fill the boiler, have it bulk dumped with a skid steer on a cement floor with cement walls and just a sliding door on one end of the shed, didn't need to hold a lot, maybe 10 wide by 20 feet long and have one door on one end, slide it open and dump in the wood, a roof to keep it dry and clean out the wood debris with a skid steer, any thoughts on this idea or have seen one similar?

I built some pallet racks a few years ago that hold half a cord. Pick them up with the tractor and set them where you need them.

How do you keep snow and rain off the wood?

I use a lot of rubber roofing in my business so I have scraps, also use rooftop guard. Pallet racks work well for me, you can stack them.

Pole shed!! I dealt with the whole tarp and pallet way of storing wood..So done with it..Best thing I ever did is build a pole shed..Highly recommend it..

thought about metal carport 12 by 21

Anything with 3 sides would be great weather it be a carport or make your own.

I have a 20' x 25' metal carport. Holds about 17 full cord and the boiler. It's full and ready for old man winter.

I use the same system as Coolidge. Stack onto pallets and cover with old metal roofing or lumber wrappers available at any building supply. Once it's on the pallets I don't handle it again until it's going into the OWB.

So you guys with carports or pole sheds, is your boiler in it as well, just outside it so you carry it out of the storage and into the furnace, or haul it when needed to the boiler?

Here are some pics of my set up. These pics are from last fall, the Ridgewood now has a skirt around the bottom.

Nice looking setup

Love it Chas!

Appears to be a very nice setup there Chas, Please use caution with the wood splitter that close to your stove, a stray spark while filling the boiler could do havoc with the gas tank on a warm day.
-
Thanks for the nice comments guys. No worries Slimjim, splitter only sits there in the off season.

Nice set up Chas!

Here is the pole shed I just built with a ton of help from a friend. Sits about 20' from the boiler. Took a weekend and a little more here and there.

My pallet rack piles, and of course some that needs css

Nice storage idea and photo's to go along with them.

hey Chas nice setup by the way. was wondering how high you stack your wood and what are the measurements of the area that is used by wood. I am building a 16x20 shed and I figured about 18-19 cord stacked 8 foot high. so either my #s are off or you don't stack that high. Thanks
-
I stack about 6ft high. One area is 16'x20', and another is 6'x9'. I throw all of the odd shaped pieces on top of the pile. I come up with 17-18 cord but i'm no mathamagician. Your 16'x'20'x8' should be 20 cord.

I finally got my wood storage set up, 18x21 carport and first little load going into it :)
