Plumbing / Re: water additives?
« on: January 24, 2013, 08:31:34 AM »
i have a cast pump. that would not work so well then :(  i am wondering about build up in the pipes and heat exchanger? i have seen additives that places sale to add but they cost alot of money. just checking to see if anyone adds them to their boilers.

Ayuh,....   Snake oil, designed to free you from yer money...

plain ole tap water is 'bout as good as it gets,...

After a few heatin', 'n coolin' cycles, it becomes sort of a dead water, in that is has less desolved O2 in it, 'n don't rust stuff so badly...

????   U think that heating up water a few times does away with dissolved 02 content?  Won't rust stuff so badly?  Dead water?

are you serious?

Ayuh,...    When boiler water is heated, 'n pumped away from the boiler, through the spiro-vent, Dissolved gases are purged from the water...
When done enough times, through repeated heatin' 'n coolin' cycles,...
YES,...
There's little to no available O2 to promote Rust, which requires Oxygen to happen...

If the Ph level is maintained, internal rustin' is pretty much Nonexistent...

Btw,....   I'm gettin' pretty sick of Yer Personal Attacks....
I'm pretty sure that yer 1700 plus post count, doesn't give you God like powers over Myself, nor anybody else.....
As far as I'm concerned, yer callin' Me ignorant, pretty much proves, that in fact You Are...

General Outdoor Furnace Discussion / Re: DI water for OWB
« on: January 24, 2013, 08:21:19 AM »
Bondo DI water is demineralized water in the navy we used it in the boilers and at all the distillerys around here they use it in there boilers just thought it would be an added insurance on my investment. it is very slick so if you end up with a leak all you can do is pull the joint apart and repair it.

Ayuh,...   Thank you,...   Never heard the term before...
That's usually something for Steam boilers as contaminants stay in the system, 'n build up over time...
With our hot Water systems, it ain't nearly as critical...

Wow is all I can say

Often times there thoughts are so far out, a debate can't even take place

Pay attention countrykid, ya might learn something, other than how to be Rude...

You seem to be quite comfortable expressin' Ignorance......

General Discussion / Re: Door Gasket
« on: January 23, 2013, 12:20:43 PM »
This year is my fourth one using my OWB.  I noticed last winter the door gaskets needed replaced.  So I bought the fiberglass rope and installed with high temp adhesive.  Been two months now and the gaskets are hard!  Anyone got any remedies besides replacement? :bash:

Ayuh,....   Use Hi-temp Silicone RTV...

If it's just hard, 'n not fallin' off, Don't worry 'bout it,....     it's still workin'...

If it's fallin' off,...  Glue it back on with Sillycone...

Home Made / Re: My build thread.

Anybody make a door gasket with hitemp RTV?  I was thinking of using a tube of RTV in the door channel and put a release agent on the opening rim.  Set the door on and let it cure.  That would make a perfect seal if it worked.  I was planning to use some Teflon gasket material we use at the mill but then thought of the RTV.

Ayuh,...   I did just that, Sorta,....

I used a rope gasket from Rutland originally, but their cement failed, miserably...

Rather than strippin' all of it out, I just used Hi-temp RTV, 'n reglued the gasket into place...
For a release agent, I just lined the lip with suran-wrap, til the RTV cured...

The plastic wrap disappeared the 1st time it was refired, 'n the rope gasket/ RTV is still goin' strong after 2 seasons...

Ayuh,....   Just run a line from the top of the boiler, down under the trough, 'n back to the bottom of the boiler...

It should thermo-siphon enough to keep things thawed out...

not a fan.....

Ayuh,...    Agreed,...  Hot water is much easier to manage than hot air....

It all comes down to the oil/gas company losing money. That is the real problem.
And they think we are to dumb to figure that out.

If everybody went out and got a boiler they would pass the laws faster then you could get them installed.

Ayuh,...   Considering that Government makes more money on every gallon of oil than Everybody else,...

I think yer blame is misplaced....

NY passed their new Rules last year,...
Luckily, there not being enforced,....                               Yet...   ::)

What the legislature refused to do, the Progressive Liberals in the DEC did by rule making, circumventing my elected officials...
