Heatmor / Re: Where is the anode rod on a 200 model??
« on: February 28, 2011, 05:47:19 AM »
I pulled my rod to check it last fall, and was surprised how corroded it was. I'm sure the rate was higher initially, until most of the oxygen in the water was consumed, but I still think it'll need to be replaced in a couple more years.

Doesn't anbody add any treatment to their water??

My boiler has just a straight 8 inch pipe - no locking means. I also want to add about four feet so it'll draft better and give mee less smoke when I load it. My dealer said the pipe just sits on the existing stack. I guess with just four feet, that should be fine. Now to find pipe near me.....

There's an orifice that splits the air flow above and below the grates. The size of it is determined by your fuel - coal or wood. I had my inlet plugged the other day, too. I actually had to remove some ashes the hard way - with a shovel. I went too long without a clean-out.

Looks good! Gives you that nice warm feeling just looking at it! But it looks like you're low on water, judging from how low the tag hangs in your picture. Make sure the bladder's half full! Looks like a 200 CSS, just like mine, even the same color! How did your first winter go?

Finally noticed a picture in another section of the manual that shows the rod location. Still interestedin what annual water treatment you do, and why.....

Wow, 250 read and no reply. Go visit any heating system supplier and they'll happily sell you propylene glycol (NOT ethylene glycol) to fill your system. I have it in mine, because I want to travel without worrying about freeze-up. It will still freeze at low concentrations, but it only gets slushy, and won't break anything.......

You should use brass nipples to connect to the stainless outlet fittings!!

Thermocouples have two wires, and thermisters, I believe, have three. Most new multimeters accept thermocouple inputs, usually type K, I've never seen one that reads thermisters. My point is, be careful what you ask for if you're buying some place like Ebay.

After going through one hernia operation, I can tell you exactly when to split! Lift it. If it's too heavy for first thing on a cold morning when you're still waking up and scratching your ****, split it.  :D

I have one of these. The "bits" aren't bits, they're stones, and they wear out fast. Better buy lots, because the diameter changes as they wear. Soon they are too small. Better just get a good Oregon hand file and roller guide!!

Heatmor / Where is the anode rod on a 200 model??
« on: November 05, 2009, 07:37:45 AM »
I have been running my Heatmor for two winters, and really like it. I wanted to check the cathodic protection to see how much it corroded per the manual, but it doesn't say where it is, and I don't see it! I also have a question about the need for annual water treatment, and what's best to use, and why. Thanks in advance for any replies!
