Title: wife wants me to install a mixing valve
Post by: tinfoilhat2020 on December 01, 2017, 12:54:53 AM
for years ive ran without a mixing valve. Never seen the need, I just don't crank the hot water up all the way when taking a shower. lol. I actually loved the super hot water for cleaning dirty pots and pans...amazing what 160+ water will do.

Unfortunately my better half wants me install a mixing valve now the boys are a bit older and we will have more people taking showers/baths.

Whats the best one to go with?

Thanks!

Have you sought the advice of your local plumbing supply store?  I would think they'd have an idea of what the local plumbers like to use.  Roger

While spendy the AMX series from Honeywell is the easiest, straight thru with out the need for a whole bunch of extra fittings.

Absolutely the AMX in my opinion. They are quite a bit more expensive, but only take 15 minutes and 3-5 joints to install and perform flawlessly. I have 2 of them at home and quite a few out in the wild with great results. Their straight through design and unions make them a breeze to put in, plus they don't need the extra jumblefuck of elbows out the side for the mixed water. Regular ones can be made to fit in a new install fairly easily, but in a retrofit where your hot line is probably straight out the top of the tank they're the cat's meow
