Equipment / Log splitter problem
« on: March 14, 2014, 09:55:08 AM »
I have an older Northern Tool brand splitter that has the 2 stage pump, I think it is a 11 gpm. About a month ago, the cylinder started to jerk. I thought the seals in the cylinder was going bad so, I replaced them. Sure enough it fixed the problem. Monday, I moved the splitter to another location (about 3 miles) and when I cranked it up, the clyinder started to jerk again.

It has a clear discharge hose and it looks like it has air in the fluid. Also, fluid/air is coming out of the breather cap. I thought I may have cracked the cheap plastic fittings and this was allowing the pump to suck air. I replaced with all new metal fittings, hydraulic fluid, cranked and still the same problem.

I noticed that a small amount of fluid is coming out of the pump shaft. Could it be sucking in air there? If so, can I replace those seals or will it force me to buy another pump?

Thanks in Advance

What's y'all's opinion on pulling this for firewood? I know I'll have to extend my pintle up for the tall tongue of the trailer. I found this trailer on CL for $350.

Electronics / Wiring Thermostat
« on: December 03, 2013, 07:58:44 AM »
I've tried to search for this specific question and I haven't had any luck. I am installing a friends outdoor furnace and I'm down to the thermostat. He's got an oil heat furnace in his house with a two wire thermostat. He also has an air conditioner package unit that sits outside. The a/c thermostat sits right beside his oil furnace thermostat. The condensor in the a/c unit has went bad but the blower still works. The a/c thermostat looks like it was originally a two wire and someone has added a third wire and wrapped it on the outside of the casing. Finally, my question: How can I wire the a/c thermostat to control only the fan in the a/c unit. There are 3 wires at the unit, green, red and white and same three wires at thermostat. Red is on RC, Green and White are both on G. The guy replaced his a/c thermostat about ten years ago when the condensor went bad (he thought it was the thermostat) and he said he may have the wires backwards.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!

Electronics / Using existing Honey TH5000 thermostat
« on: December 31, 2012, 08:56:35 PM »
I have a new 4 ton Heil DX 1500 split unit heat pump. I want to use the heat pump as a backup for my OWB. I've heard of people unhooking the electric heat strips and putting the thermostat on emergency heat to only use the thermostat to control the blower. Can I use this Thermostat for this application?

The link below contains the  thermostat that I'm using, its the TH5220D model.

Home Made / Having problems With my boiler going under pressure
« on: November 11, 2010, 10:58:29 AM »
I built my furance about a year ago and I've been having problems with the firebox going under pressure. I've got a 146 cfm fan mounted on the door. It's a double pass flue design with 6in square tubing as the flue. The chimney is about 6 ft high. Seems like i might have a draft problem, you can look at the top of the chimney and see the smoke puffing and also the smoke discharges back through the blower. I've been burning 1 year seasoned oak firewood.  Any thoughts of why this would happen??

Electronics / Wiring Aquastat and fan relay
« on: September 01, 2010, 04:32:34 PM »
Just wondering how would I wire my aquastat and fan relay together?? I've bought a honeywell Well Immersion aquastat and an Enclosed Fan Relay(picture attached) . I also have a 110v/24v transformer, I was told that I needed that for the aquastat. I have no idea on how to wire this up so maybe one of yall would have advice on how to do this.. I have searched the net for a diagram on how to wire the relay but haven't had any luck.
