Heatmor / Heatmor 400 owners
« on: May 02, 2015, 01:24:12 AM »
I have a 200css for 19 years now a leak in fire box  . heating 5500spft last 3 years 3800sqft before that . Thinking about if i replaced it if was worth extra money to to go with the 400css . How I was doing it before 200css was loading 3 -4 times a day when super cold -20f . Now if I went with the 400css could I get full 24 hours loading twice a day at -20f . Because if i could get it to keep house warm full 24 hours at-20f . It would be worth the $2200 more . My thinking my back up heat never kick on (LP and electric) and would be a saving that way . also can I stack the wood in there with 2 ranks 25 inch pieces for split stuff . you know one in front of other .
give me idea how your cutting blocks and loading . Thanks for any info . researching ideas trying to make life easier . :bash:

Heatmor / white flames at below -0f
« on: February 20, 2015, 01:23:34 AM »
It was -10f and my 200ss does this if you keep loading 3-5 pieces of dry oak in every 3-4 hours .  water always above 150f
when you have door open fan on when loading and watch the flames change from yellow red blue to straight white .
when it does it you can feel mass of heat . anyone ever notice this . seen it few times only at -0f or colder .  cycle times are quit fast
also when its doing this .  I call it short loading the stove but wow does it heat up the house :)  Searched on net says its burning at 2900f with white flames .  Only noticed this sense burning some nice dry oak 20-25%

Heatmor / preheating outdoor wood
« on: February 02, 2015, 05:47:03 AM »
Here's a thought My woodshed is about 12 feet from stove door. Its 16 feet by 35 feet . could I save enough BTUs by heating woodshed to 45f . instead of wasting BTUs heating the blocks up inside the stove.  Has anyone done math on this.
Because I'm thinking it be worth the effert. If I did this insulate woodshed really good. And put in ceiling fan. Maybe I'm dreaming. Now the ideas in cyber space. :o

Heatmor / insulation in my 200ss
« on: October 06, 2014, 04:20:20 PM »
I was thinking of putting more insulation in my heat mor cuz I noticed last year that it had a lot of heat leakage what would be the best kind of insulation put in there. top and in the back. Mine has the piece of plastic on top so I'll put it under the plastic. Thanks for any info. Back to cutting wood.

Heatmor / burning Oak New dry oak issue
« on: March 23, 2014, 02:14:49 AM »
My trench lines run about 125 feet to my house . pex with al  1 inch  in-cased in closed cell foam 4-6 inches per side covered on top with plastic 24 inchs in the ground all in 1998 . Now last 2 weeks of warmer weather snow has milted on top my trench  not all the way you can just see a dip it in the snow . Checking water temps I still only loosing the 1 degree like I always have . with the touch less IR meter gun ground temp and snow in whole area is the same there is no spot warmer on top the trench  even scraped snow back and checked ground temp all the same ground is even froozen on top the trench .why am I getting this  is it a frost issue . Meaning theres no frost under trench and ground is warmer .  ya bit confusing . stoves working great like it always has . hardy burning wood maybe 1 wheel barrow a day or less . sence its warmed up .  any Ideas

I noticed with dryer oak . My heatmor 200  cycles even at -20f up to 30-45 mins ( that's draft fan off ) Now I want to fix the cold rooms by putting in some air exchangers as the rooms dont have enough baseboard . Could I just plumb in to the zone valve loop and put a snap disc on the copper pipe To turn fan on and off auto run by water temp only. zone valve witch is run by thermostat.  ( this would be so fans never blowing cold air ) I seen they have set able  snap discs now . so be like on at 100f off 100f give or take 15 degrees .

Also I just bought a touch less thermometer . Whats the range do you want your return water to drop in degrees so house it pulling heat off . I'm noticing mine dont drop much with just baseboard only 4-5 degrees ( this incoming to house and out going ) . But in my shop with air exchanger it drops about 7 degrees when fans running  1 degree if fans off . Touchless thermometer tells you the whole story whats going on wish I had it at -26f  Could of got a better feel for what heat was doing with my baseboards. as I'm finding out you cant get enough heat off a baseboard in bigger rooms . work great in bedrooms . Bigger rooms must need air exchangers to keep up with the bigger space .  :bash: living and learning ..

« on: February 05, 2014, 12:46:52 AM »
I'm heating 5500 square feet . I happen to get 10 cords of oak . checks out at 15% . Now I filled it at -20f I got 7.5 hours of burn time . But I have noticed bubbling in the door when stoves up to temp 170f . I know this dry oak gets hotter inside walls are tan with spots of white haze this is after a 7.5 hour burn not out of the norm  . Thats all working great  . Question come to wood use .  were having a crazy cold year . I have went throw 3 cords just in January . I keep house same all time fire 24 hours .  Im in central MN . has others been having the same usage.  :o

Heatmor / Something to add about heatmor 200 css 1996 model
« on: November 08, 2013, 01:50:14 AM »
Its all about install like every brand . I have 3 zones heating 5500 square feet with average insulation in 2 houses and shop and garage . It heats everything about 12 cord last year all wet oak .  Now Its also about how you burn it . I go all year and never clean chimney never have to its always clean .  I keep firebox clean don't let ashes build up . Keep good seal where all gaskets are and your good to go . I cleaned out fire box last year and added more sand as some gets scraped out when cleaning and fire box burned all them years and all steel in fire box looked like new yet . All I know in 1996 Heatmor built one awesome stove :) I'm running hot water lines 275 feet total in the ground also heavy clay in a woods .  Thats my Heatmor review . One last point use semi heater hose on door (blue). Its well worth the $40 bucks ;)

Plumbing / thermopex or logstor
« on: August 31, 2012, 10:16:33 PM »
I'm new to the forum . But I have had a Heatmor 200css sense 1996 . I have 220 feet of under ground line 2 zones   pex al with sprayed in close cell foam. I have used 10 cords of oak every year and thats wet oak fresh off the semi :) and yes If it was dry I would say I would only burn 7-8 cord . lol  Now I'm adding a 3rd zone . and looking at either logstor or thermopex . I have ruled out inso seal as my ground is heavy clay and flat and in a woods so you dig a hole you just made a spring pond . I can't have any risk of water touching lines . small crack in sewer pipe or plastic means cutting to much wood . All products have there placed to be used . I also have to go under my driveway with this 3rd zone . My question is Logstor or thermopex . I dont know anyone local that has used either one installed .With this 3rd zone I will be heating 3500 square feet to 70f and 2000 square feet to 50f All is very well insulated . So it will be at max for my heatmor 200css. Might just break the 10 cord a year for sure .  This looks like a great forum. wish it was here in 1996 would of stopped me from trying the foam box and plastic idea ( yes I been there and did that ) nothing like cutting 220 feet of foam and making a box and finding out the next year it has to be riped out and $1000 of close cell foam sprayed in . Live and learn .. any info would be great . I'm in MN
