RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / Re: plugged stove

i always clean around the draft door whenever i load the stove as PM.

Left that plate out over night to see how it performed and it does seem to use more but man it gets up to temp alot faster without it in there.

I was gone the last few days and my wife calls and says the stove wont get above 130.

When she opens door it starts up but when she closes it goes out. dampener was open.

So today i rush home and take out the plate that slides in while stove is 138, pry it out and a ton of creoste fulls out and is all over the back side of the opening. Fire takes off and gets to temp. Lots of sparks flying out of pipe. Will re install when it gets lower temp.

N?ext year i will get it low and do a good cleaning of it half way through season.

I burned 1-2 cord poplar the start of the season and the idle fires last week i think plugged it up. it was bad..

all the wood i cut i hang my loader tractor with the pallet forks. Never in dirt and i try not to drag wood so dirt gets on it. Hard to do but once that chain hits dirt forget about it needs to be sharpened.

i have the same stove and same underground pipe.

I installed my pipe myself and we had a huge rain also and mine leaked into my basement. I filled the opening with spray foam and dug up the trench at the lowest spot and cut a slit in it to release all the water. my fault but mine is only 25 feet worth of under ground pipe

i burned 6 cords this year so far.

4-5 hard 1-2 soft is my guess. February killed me also. I stacked all my wood in a 2 cord row so i know how much i have left.

Got a 24 hour burn the other day when it was 50.

2500 sq ft 1500 main+1000 basement.

last year i had an indoor unit and burned 5 and it was a PITA.

its in the low water areas and i did notice water was seeping out of it after i cut it.

i bet its red maple. it has a dark star shape on the center and is light weight. i have a ton of it around and all the trees are perfect size i can get 4-5 8 foot logs out of each tree. ill burn it in the warmer months.

also i am in west Michigan

its red maple i think.. not sure on the maple classification.

all i know is it cuts like a soft wood but the bark looks like a hard wood. either way my nw 572xp chain saw makes quick work of those logs. easier to cut than the ash that's for sure..

Fire Wood / maple?
« on: March 11, 2015, 07:28:10 AM »
Just had one of our woods logged they took 200 cords of dead ash) now i have a ton of maple trees.

does anyone burn it? the btu rating is better than ash from what i saw, but it takes awhile to dry?

i have around 2-3 years worth of tops but i am tempting on cutting maple as well to let it dry

i use my john deere 6300 with a 640 loader, lifts 2000lbs. i wouldnt do without it.

best part is the forks. i pick up logs waste high and then cut them, keeps saw out of the dirt.
