Portage & Main / Moisture problem in a 250
« on: January 05, 2016, 11:33:55 AM »
I have a small amount of moisture inside the airbox and inside the door of the reaction chamber on my 250. What would cause
this ? I called Brian at P&M and left him a voicemail almost four weeks ago with no reponse so I need to fix this.

 Thanks, Larry

Portage & Main / Spring temps
« on: March 14, 2015, 05:03:00 AM »
Now that it is warm out im having some trouble with the fire not relighting. I lost the fire again yesterday after getting home from work. I reloaded with smaller splits and started it and also moved the differential to two degrees from the five that it has been at.
Did I do the right thing or is there something else I should be doing ? This is my first spring running my boiler so Im learning  :bash:

Portage & Main / Nozzle update
« on: March 13, 2015, 04:49:48 AM »
Just wanted to let everyone know that Karl's new nozzle is working great. It has been in the 40's this week and it is working great. I find it making a lot more charcoal when it warms up but it still burns it completely. I lost the fire and had to start a new one once this week because it completely burned thru the wood that usually would last for 12 hours.
Thanks Karl !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Portage & Main / Broken Nozzle
« on: February 08, 2015, 05:58:06 PM »
Hey Slim thanks for the help on my 25 tonight. I let it burn down an you were 100 % right. The nozzle is broken and falling in on itself. If I were to take out the broken piece the nozzle looks like it will be huge. The sad part is my boiler has only been running for six weeks, we fired it the first time xmas eve.

Portage & Main / Shout OUT FOR SLIMJIM
« on: January 20, 2015, 08:36:03 AM »
I just want to give a shout out and thank Slimjim for all the help getting my 250 running. I had some trouble and frustration the first week getting it to run smooth but have found out it was mostly operator error. Slimjim deserves a HUGH thanks for answering the
many questions and helping me thru the start up problems without getting mad. He is not only my boiler dealer but has become a friend in the process. It has been running for four weeks now three of them with almost no problems.
Thanks Simjim for all the help.

« on: January 14, 2015, 04:58:39 AM »
Where do you guys get brushes for an optimizer 250. The brushes from the factory are too small for the tubes. What size brushes
do you use ?

Portage & Main / Better Burn
« on: January 09, 2015, 05:15:01 AM »
I usually keep the thermostats at 64 at night and 68 during the day. I kept them atb 70 for 24 hours and the boiler seemed to run better. Is this in my head or did this really help ?

« on: January 07, 2015, 04:33:07 AM »
Hey guys I went out to load the boiler this morning and just as I got outside I heard the blower shut off so I waited just a minute and then opened the door. I got chased by the fireball yet again  :bash: What do you do to avoid this fun event ? Do you walk away for a longer time period ? At least this time I new what it was when I saw it coming !!!!

Portage & Main / Follow up to creosote problem on optimizer 250
« on: January 05, 2015, 04:37:31 AM »
I need to write a follow up from last weeks post on creosote problem with my 250. Thanks to all that responded and to Slimjim. The manual is VERYYYYYYY wrong in saying to leave the blower off any time the boiler is open. It is extremely dangerous to turn the blower off and then open the door, it can and will throw a huge fireball at you  >:( >:( >:(. With the great help and patients of slimjim
on the phone my optimizer is running great now. Had to adjust three of the doors to fix air leaks and adjust the amount of wood I was putting in and the creosote problems are gone. It is very critical with this boiler to only load the amount of wood that it will burn in 12 hours. If you load just enough wood so that it is all burned and the boiler is just starting to cool down after 12 hours you will avoid most problems. If I came off the wrong way towards slimjim in my first post I truly apologize as that was not my intent at all
Thanks , Larry

Portage & Main / Creosote problem
« on: December 31, 2014, 04:49:02 AM »
SlimJim I am trying to type this with an open mind but after this morning I am having a very hard time. If you have seen the movie back draft you would know what I went thru this am. When I opened up the door to check the boiler the creosote ignited instantly and a huge fireball came out  >:( it burned the paint off the front of the boiler and came very close to putting me in the hospital. I have said in three phone calls and a post yesterday that this boiler has a creosote problem and have been told four times now not to worry about this that it will just burn off. At this point my girlfriend said just get it off the property and im not far behind her after today. She keeps asking me why after spending 11,500 on the boiler that the factory doesn't send someone to start the boilers after the install so this crap doesn't happen and im wondering the same thing. I have followed all your instructions to the letter and this boiler is turning into a huge nightmare. I would sure appreciate any advice on this so I don't end up in the hospital. Sorry if I sound upset but I reallyyyyyyyy am since I have followed instructions to the letter.
