RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / plugged stove
« on: April 22, 2015, 04:12:38 PM »
I was gone the last few days and my wife calls and says the stove wont get above 130.

When she opens door it starts up but when she closes it goes out. dampener was open.

So today i rush home and take out the plate that slides in while stove is 138, pry it out and a ton of creoste fulls out and is all over the back side of the opening. Fire takes off and gets to temp. Lots of sparks flying out of pipe. Will re install when it gets lower temp.

N?ext year i will get it low and do a good cleaning of it half way through season.

I burned 1-2 cord poplar the start of the season and the idle fires last week i think plugged it up. it was bad..

Fire Wood / maple?
« on: March 11, 2015, 07:28:10 AM »
Just had one of our woods logged they took 200 cords of dead ash) now i have a ton of maple trees.

does anyone burn it? the btu rating is better than ash from what i saw, but it takes awhile to dry?

i have around 2-3 years worth of tops but i am tempting on cutting maple as well to let it dry

Equipment / Fixars x27 ax
« on: December 13, 2014, 02:50:59 PM »
Anyone else have this? I got it a few weeks ago and so far split 3 cord for the wife and just because it was fun.

This ax is great and faster than my splitter, plus a better workout.

I split a 24 inch diameter by 3 foot long piece of ash in 4 pieces with 5 swings.

Love this thing.

Goodbye 8lb mull

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / ridgewood 6000 review so far.

Been burning since 9-24-14 and its finally got down into low teens last night 3 degrees when i got up at 5am. the stove was on 9 hours of burn time heating my 2500 sqft house 1500 main 1000 basemenet. still have some logs in it and my house was set to 71 last night and my DHW, these stoves are great. i have 14-15 cords stacked and i sure hope that is enough. my guess is around 1 cord a month(or at least i hope). i havent burned 1 cord yet maybe 3/4 cord but its been warmer.

r-19 in the walls ( we are doing new windows siding and spray foam in the spring)

Added 10 inches to my attic so i have around r-50-5-60 in attic(this helped a ton i only had r-20 last winter.

anyways i am burning the last of my poplar with a mix of a few cherry pieces, my wife loads it during the week when i am gone we couldnt be happier with this stove and the temp of our house.

total investmenet is around 5100-5500

thanks craig.

RidgeWood Stoves, defunct, support only / hooking up stove tomorrow
« on: September 10, 2014, 11:00:32 AM »
i have a question its not on the hook up of the stove i have that covered.

its for my 8 foot stack on my exhaust pipe.

I have very nice maple trees above where my stove is and i want to know if i can put a 90 on the top of my stack with a 2-4 foot extension so the smoke can clear the trees. I dont want them to die from all the smoke that will be coming out.

I know i could move the stove but its placement makes the most sence and its close to the house. 25 feet. i could move it closer but that wouldn't be code for my area.

My dog and my 2 year old son went up to visit Craig up in Hersey on Saturday and I must say he has a nice slice of heaven.

Either way I already knew I was going to get a ridgewood from looking at Scott's here in capac.

Got a great deal around 600 off with the special he is running

18x18 heat exchanger
20 plate for hot water
25 feet of pex( putting it as close to the house as I'm allowed
8 foot stacks( to get smoke up and over my house)
Charcoal gray color to match the house.

Being delivered Friday.

Can't stress enough about Craig and his operation.

Also if you have the chance to go and visit ask to see his stove.. Looks like a 12000 model.

Plan on hooking it up ASAP

Was out cutting wood today on my farm in capac. Cut about 2 cords split. Pays to have ash trees laying around a loader tractor and a 3 point mounted log spitter
