Portage & Main / Low temp aquastat
« on: August 06, 2014, 08:32:17 AM »
Hey SlimJim on my 250 install you said to plumb in an aquastat for low temp shut down of the blower fan. Where should this be plumbed in and how do I wire it in the back of the boiler? Also I am hooking up the supply to the top of the boiler and the return to the bottom of the boiler do you use the connections on just one side of the boiler or one from each side ?

Plumbing / Logstor bending
« on: July 02, 2014, 08:37:02 AM »
I just put my logstor pipe in the trench yesterday and had to leave the last 15' open. The last 15' is 4 1/2 feet deep, couldn't go any deeper cause we hit solid rock. How do you get the end of this giant black anaconda to lay in the trench and stand up straight ?

Portage & Main / Logstor end caps
« on: June 12, 2014, 04:57:50 AM »
Does any one know where to get the black end caps to finish the install of the logstor ? I have spoke with two different
people at portage and main and they have both told me logstor does not make them. I see in sloppys install pictures that he has them so they must make them.

« on: June 05, 2014, 12:17:44 PM »
I would like to give a huge THANKS to Richard from mainly custom. Richard and Dan delivered my new 250 and my logstor pipe
this past Friday. Now the fun begins. For those who have not had the pleasure of meeting him and having a few beers with him
you should try to. Extremely knowledgeable with all these boilers entail and will share any info he has.
Thanks so much !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. here is a picture of the large pin oak that I was trying to cut up last week. Thought you would get a laugh out of it.

Plumbing / Copper fittings
« on: May 14, 2014, 05:51:34 AM »
Slimjim, when you visited my house we talked about the copper fittings you use to build manifolds. You said you use only long radius elbows and special unions for the systems. What were the special unions called ?
Thanks, Larry

« on: April 23, 2014, 04:17:39 AM »
For the gassifier guys. What does everyone do with all the short pieces and chunks ? I just finished cutting and splitting 12 chords
and have a large pile of stuff under 12" long. Can this still be burned in a gassifier ? Thanks I am new to the game.

Plumbing / Pipe depth
« on: March 11, 2014, 05:22:20 AM »
How deep should the logstor pipe be buried. My ground is nothing but wet clay and rocks ? Should the pipe be laid in a
bed of compacted sand before being covered ?
Thanks

Plumbing / P&M install
« on: February 25, 2014, 04:59:08 AM »
I am connecting a P&M 250 to my inside oil boiler. Slimjim sent me a basic drawing of the two systems. It looks to be like
the bell and gosset primary secondary that they designed in the mid 50's which has worked very well since then. I am sure
there are differances due to the outside boiler being hooked to it.

1st- will the pump on the outside boiler loop run 24/7 ? Will it have a just a switch to turn it off for maintenance ?

2nd- will the pump on the inside boiler primary loop run 24/7 ?

3rd- will the secondary loops or zones be controlled with a zone valve or circulators ?

4th- what will control the the inside boiler running without the burner coming on ?

Thanks for the help on this slimjim. As you had said you would like these discusions to be in the forum so every body can benifit from them.

Portage & Main / Soon to be owner
« on: February 21, 2014, 08:34:17 AM »
I just put my deposit in for an optimizer 250 thanks to Rory and Slimjim. So now the questions begin. What is the best size to split wood for this stove ? Also what is the best wood to try to start with so that I have enough dry wood for next winter ?
I cannot say enough good things about Slimjim, he was instrumental in helping me make the decision on a P&M.

« on: February 12, 2014, 01:50:03 PM »
Slimjim, you have been a wealth of information so far while I am figuring out what to do for an OWB.
Is there any optimizer's running within a reasonable distance of zip 12053. This is about 30 minutes
west of albany NY. Again thanks for all your help so far.
