Wye strainer in supply

Should the wye strainer be installed before the pump or after the pump on the supply line to the flat plate heat exchanger ?

I like to put them after the circ, I find that after they are installed, nobody ever cleans them and then as they get dirty the circ starves for water and destroys the circ.

I am going to plumb a bypass around it so I can clean it when the boiler is running. I will install it right next to the exchanger with the pump pumping into it. Does it matter how close the pump is to the heat exchanger ? Thanks Slim.

Agree with this a hundred percent, a pump can force water the an less than clean screen, however trying to pull water thru it is another story.

...as long as you are on the supply side of the FPHE you are good.

But I do agree, easier to push thru and pull thru with pump  :thumbup: :thumbup:
