Pumps
« on: November 03, 2014, 12:55:24 PM »

I have a primary secondary system with-
7- secondary zone pumps
1- primary pump
1- inside boiler pump
1- outside wood boiler pump
Do all these pumps get wired thru the taco switching relay ? I need to order the proper switching relay's

Slim I think I gave you the wrong information yesterday when I talked to you about these.

OK Larry, I was actually waiting for other ideas but here goes. outside wood boiler circ and inside primary circ both get wired to seperate toggle/light swithces, inside oil/gas boiler circ gets wired to the C-1 terminal on your boiler aqua-stat ( this circ only operates when your oil/gas boiler is up to temperture and there is a call for heat) and is not used when heating with wood. The remaining 7 loop circs would be wired through the circulator relays to control the zones, my choice for relays would be 2 Taco SR 504 EXP circulator switching relays with the capability to expand for future use, I would use 2- 4 zone instead of a 6 and 2 as they will look better and I'm not sure if they make an 8 zone.

I thought there would be some reply's also but no one jumped in. So you run the primary pump all the time also and not just on a call for heat ?

You can run the primary through the XX terminals on your relay and it will come on only on a call for heat but you should expect a delay in delivering the heat to the loops, The XX terminals are a set of dry (isolated contacts) that make connection on any call for heat, one side of this contact would come from the Toggle/light switch and the other terminal would power up the primary loop circulator!

Thanks Slimjim, I don't like to bother you with questions but I do want my system to be right the first time.

LARRY! You sir are a long way from being a bother, I was only sitting back and waiting for others to have a shot at it, would you like for me to see if Bell has an 8 zone relay in Albany? I will be @ the Biddeford store this morning and could get them in Albany to release it through my account if you like.

Thanks for the help. I looked and Taco doesn't make an 8 relay switch. I am going to put in two of the 4 relay switches. I have been ordering from a company called PEX SUPPLY and there prices are almost impossible to beat. Should I get one expandable and one
not expandable or two expandable ?

I doubt there is much price difference between the EXP and non so I would go for both EXP
