Anyone else out cuttin wood?
« on: February 02, 2013, 01:18:07 PM »

Just curious if anyone else is out cutting wood today?  It's 7 degrees here in MN and its kind of nice out there. Unlike earlier in the season I don't come in dripping with sweat.  We just put the owb in last fall and I figured I had enough cut to get me into feb and here we are and it's time to cut more.  I suppose most of you owb vets are always a couple of years ahead... :)

Ayuh,....   My wood gets delivered by the tree service I get it from,...

I've got most of it blocked up, except for a few HUGE stems of the 4' to 6' diameter stuff...

I've split 'bout all the blocks I can lift onto the splitter,...
Now I've got a bunch of big rounds that still need splittin',...
Just gotta flip the splitter up, 'n have a go at 'em...

It's snowin' to beat 'ell out today, big bad lake effect snows...

Seein's I've got plenty of wood ready for burnin',...
I'll just wait alittle longer, before worrin' 'bout those Big rounds... ;)

I cut and haul my wood full lenght 10 to 12 ft and haul it out of the woods then cut to lenght 3 ft or shorter at the house. This morning before noon I cut 5 pickup loads, full length. Im beat. Im guessing that I have 3 full days of cutting piled up to be cut to 3 ft lenght.

I sell wood so I am always cutting or splitting.  Cut up some oak logs today, will be splitting tomorrow.  Some decent sized stuff - 24 inches in diameter.  Not drinking too much beer tonight!

I haven't cut any wood in over a year to amount to much, I still have enough split white oak to go another winter...   I will probably cut another winters worth in march/April

I was out yesterday cutting in the light snow here.   After burning for my first month the reality of real wood consumption is setting in.   I had about 2 to 2.5 ricks of split, well-seasoned oak as I started and about 2/3s of it is gone.   Love the wood heat but my sawing and splitting will be picking up for sure.   Sawed up a couple of mid-sized trees down and probably added a couple of weeks burn time to my pile...
